Posted April 17, 200718 yr In one of my breeding birds nests, there were two of the babies born at the same time from the same egg. They were the exact same size and born on the same day and it could only have been from the one egg. There was no other egg they could have come out of. Parents turned out to be terrible and they allowed two others to die, so I fostered these two to another nest. Here they are developing, still seem to be the same age, same feather devlopment and so far the same colour and markings. Who knows if they are identical. I find it hard to believe what I saw when they hatched and tried telling myself I had it wrong, but I know that they must be twins. These are the parents.... Foster Mum Oprah Foster Dad Winston and the "Twins" These guys spend their time intertwined with each other, never separate. Edited May 3, 200718 yr by Kaz

April 17, 200718 yr Author Way back when I joined someone had the same thing happen to them I can't remember which forum member. I am sure it is very rare BUT very possible . They are cute. We have 3 sets of twins in Hailey's class. Maggie and Katie Lilly and Grace Carolyn and Evelyn LOL if they are girls maybe you would like to use those names I like the names. Probably too soon to tell but so far they look like boys. Twins mustn't happen very often. I have been trying to tell myself since they were born, that I was seeing things. Maybe they happen but successful ones are rare due to size. I know when these two were born, Mum didnt feed them so I fed them their first 3 feeds and boy oh boy were they tiny !!

April 17, 200718 yr Author You might be able to search the forum I know it was at least a year back... I found it....it was Cindy that had a set of twins too http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....topic=10117&hl=
April 17, 200718 yr I knew it was a member that is common here but I couldn't remember I kept thinking Julie but I was like no no (Laughing out loud). Glad you found it.
April 17, 200718 yr Author Based on what I have been reading up on, the twin chicks from one egg are usually smaller and they dont often survive. I remember being impressed by a larger egg in this nest, but not greatly larger than an ordinary egg. I just thought it was the difference between some show type parents and pet type....their eggs I mean. I guess, if I hadnt fed the babies right from the word go and for 24 hours or so they may have faded away too. Mum budgie certainly wasnt interested in them until I got them livelier and squarking. It will be interesting to see how they turn out.

April 18, 200718 yr Author wow :hap: I didn't know it's possible to get twins. I can't wait to see them all grown up. Congratulations Kaz They hardly ever survive due to being so small or one baby grows and the other doesnt. These two were very tiny, but I fed them their first feeds till their mother took over. It may have helped as they were very weak also. Doing okay now though. :hap:
April 18, 200718 yr That's cool Kaz, where did you actually learn hand feeding babies? From a book or someone? I want to learn it just in case I need it one day. I bought a book, but I don't think it's enough to learn it from a book :hap:
April 18, 200718 yr Author The newborns are so easy to feed. You just put the formula near their beak and they suck it in....a tiny, tiny amount. I feed older babies by crop needle. :hap:
