June 2, 200718 yr Doesn't that put your existing bird at risk and breeding so soon if they do bring out any unknown illness in the new bird? I know to each their own doesn't seem like a very good way to quarantine. We give advice to quarantine for 30 days and then this advice is given Feathers they are very cute, like the last picture of her peeking.
June 2, 200718 yr Author Doesn't that put your existing bird at risk and breeding so soon if they do bring out any unknown illness in the new bird? Hi Elly, breeders will do this if both birds in the pair are new. In effect the breeding cabinet becomes their quarantine cage. I am just very pedantic when it comes to some things, and this is one of them. I don't know if there is any affect on a breeding bird who is given coccivet. My quarantine program gives them plenty of time back on fresh water after finishing their treatment. I quarantine for 30 days, but I know show breeders who don't go under 90 days. There are a couple of things that an experienced breeder will do that you would NEVER advise a pet budgie owner to do, but I must stress that I have not disagreed with any of these things that I have found yet. The best analogy for this is that when a child is taught division in school they learn 'long division', it is not until they are older and have more experience that they use 'short division'. Both methods are correct and work but you need to be able to do one properly before trying the other. Feathers they are very cute, like the last picture of her peeking. Dekota is such a cutie. I had her in a breeding cage originally with a nice big violet boy but she wasn't interested. When I let her go in with this boy after watching them flirt in the aviary they went straight to 'work'. June 2, 200718 yr Gotcha it was the way it was written and it was explained. The explanation didn't say that it was 2 new birds vs 1 new and 1 existing. No harm for asking I hope . Sometimes I ask and get into trouble . I understand that are done very different at times so that is why I ask questions and not jump to conclusions you know (at least I hope it comes across that way). Thank you for explaining this to me Aly.

Thank you for explaining this to me Aly. Way better to do it like this than to jump to those conclussions and start slamming people and work out later that it wasn't a problem to start with. We all learn something new from each other all the time, questions make the world go around. Feathers.
June 3, 200718 yr Author I have been sorting some pairs and setting up some new breeding cages today. I need to get a couple of nestboxes to finish them off. This is a pair that has gone into a cage earlier today Kazbee & ?? I need a name for the hen. Any ideas? Also they are both skyblue clearwings... anyone want to have a go at working out the expectations from this pair I still need a name for the df spangle cock in this pair. The hen is Buffy. and have a look at these two chicks, they were both so full. They reminded me of someone who has eaten WAY too much at christmas time and has to lie down till their tummy settles Feathers. Edited June 3, 200718 yr by feathers

It's easy when they look different. Aly (Feathers ) ....I suggest you name one of your budgies HEY YOU ....OR hayu next. How about that for a name ?

Feathers. ps: no, I don't remember Banana Splits (wierd name By The Way). Training 30 odd hours a week and getting home at around 10pm every night, I missed a LOT of TV in my youth. It's probably why I don't watch much now. We have had Foxtel installed for over a month and I have not watched even 30 seconds of it.

June 3, 200718 yr Author Thank you. Buffy and Snorky... Kazbee and Beaker. It's kinda of nice that Kaz picks Kazbee's girlfriend's name as she bought Kazbee for me. All of my exhibition birds are listed under ring numbers. I figured they would get names as I used them for breeding. Feathers.
June 3, 200718 yr wow,I love the photo of the babies. They are so cute. Can't wait to see what the grey hen and yellow cock produce.By the way I love the grey hen she is absolutely gorgeous.
June 4, 200718 yr Author NEXT time, I shall offer suggestions, love to help name, beautiful babes Excellent, I will need some more names when I put in two more pairs tomorrow. I turned another flight cage into a double breeding cage today so that I can put in more pairs. This time I changed the way I put it together. The last cages I opened the feeding doors near the bottom and mounted the nestboxes there. double breeding cage MkI Although this design has been working well and the pairs have been happily getting down to breeding I figured that I would improve on the original. When I converted the cage today I cut 5 bars out of both sides at the top of the cage and mounted the nestboxes up there instead. If I want to return the cage to the original state for a flight cage I would simply cover the hole with aviary wire. double breeding cage MkII Here they are stacked: This brings my total breeding cages to 11 at the moment. June 5, 200718 yr Author Two new pairs went in this morning. The YF Grey (which I will name Graye from Elly's suggestions above with a Cinnamon Skyblue hen(name required). The second pair to go in are both sky violets. I am going to convert this cage for breeding: By putting in a thin piece of plywood I can separate the top and bottom sections of the cage, which I will then cut in half by using a wire divider like I did with my other flight cages. This will then give me another 4 breeding cages. Feathers. Edited June 5, 200718 yr by feathers
June 5, 200718 yr The YF Grey (which I will name Graye from Elly's suggestions abovewith a Cinnamon Skyblue hen(name required). Feathers. How about CINDERS ? Edited June 5, 200718 yr by **KAZ**
June 5, 200718 yr Author Name, CINNAMOM SKY BLUE HEN Actually, up until now her name has been HKS 06 065 Cinders seems popular, so Cinders and Graye it is for the first pair. As no one has given any names for the second pair I will go with Skyler and Rangi. Thanks guys, Feathers.
