May 29, 200718 yr Author Another pair has starting laying today. It just seems they took forever to get started and now it is all smooth sailing. Feathers.
May 29, 200718 yr you'll have babies coming out your ears feathers!! and they will all be so beautiful, you have some gorgeous coloured birds! have been reading your separate threads for each pair, they're great. sorry to read about jade tho, RIP bubba. good luck with the rest!
May 30, 200718 yr Author Thanks Ains. This is the new pair who have 1 egg. Dekota (YF2 skyblue spangle hen) and Oh-oh (skyblue dilute spangle cock) Expectations off the top of my head: skyblue chicks all split dilutes 25% DF spangles 50% spangles 25% normals 50% yellow faces Please feel very free to correct me. I have had the worst 2 days I've had in a long time - with Lori's medical scare yesterday and some very distressing news today. Keely is going strong with her egg laying. She now has 6 eggs. She was having trouble keeping them all together to incubate as the concave in her nest was way too shallow. I tried using pine shavings heaped around the concave to keep them together, but she kept removing them. I have now put an insert into the nestbox with a good concave and she seems much happier about it. She is showing no signs of stopping laying yet. She and her partner spent the time I was checking on the nests this morning to flirt with each other. I have not candled any of her eggs yet. I will try to remember to do it tonight. Feathers. May 30, 200718 yr Author Thanks Kaz. I love the new name by the way, you deserve stars I was looking at the photo above when I suddenly thought, I'm not so sure Oh-oh is actually a spangle, so I went back through my archived pics and looked at these: These are pics of him as a youngster, but I think because of the dilute factor, from a distance he appears a spangle. I will have to have a proper look at him later Looks like we can ignore the expectations above and go with: slyblue split dilute chicks, all normals. Feathes.
May 30, 200718 yr Author It is a dilute, Kaz, for some silly reason I had him written down as a dilute spangle... Feathers.
May 30, 200718 yr Looks spangle to me.. especially that first picture. and also he has spangle clear tailfeathers. oh and even if he is only a dilute, and not dilute spangle, you'll still get 50% spangle, and 50% normal chicks. but I'm still saying that he is spangle as well. May 30, 200718 yr Author HEy feathers can you let me know how many are fertile as I am "Studing" the look of them HEHE I just checked and at least the first 3 look fertile, it is too early to check the last three as they are under 5 days old. Looks spangle to me.. especially that first picture. and also he has spangle clear tailfeathers. I just had a close look at him. He isn't a spangle, the wing colouring is as per a normal, just very light. You can see it best looking near the bottom of his wings. So skyblue chicks split for dilute, 50% spangle, 50% yellow face. Another pair has started to lay today: Jem (cobalt opaline hen) and Beachu (Grey normal cock) Feathers.
May 31, 200718 yr Author HE looks spangle to me too Me three It was bugging me all last night, I couldn't understand why I would have gotten that wrong earlier. So, as I checked the night before with a night light and a flexi torch I had a look at him in the daylight this morning as he is spangle. So back to the original expectations. As I said in the post yesterday I had had a couple of very rough days and my head was not screwed on at all. Thankfully a lot of the stress was taken from me this morning, for which I am extremely grateful. Feathers.
May 31, 200718 yr Author I am going to have to start a journal for Keely and Daddy soon. They now have 7 eggs, she is very keen... Everyone in breeding cages are looking great, very happy and well fed chicks tonight. Feathers.
June 1, 200718 yr Author I am going to start a new thread for Keely. I now have 4 pairs with a total of 12 eggs and 3 pairs with 2 chicks in each nest. The biggest news.. I now have a show budgie egg from this pair: The hen is a grey opaline spangle and the cock is a yellow double factor spangle. The hen is a VERY big girl and will go one round with this cock before changing to another I have in mind for her. This egg isn't any bigger than the other eggs in the pet budgie nests. Feathers.
June 1, 200718 yr he seems to adore his wife she is quite the size and gorgeous, I am very interested to see the outcome of this pair :ausb:
June 1, 200718 yr Author he seems to adore his wife she is quite the size and gorgeous, I am very interested to see the outcome of this pair Same, Elly. As far as hens go, she is HUGE and has the best head I have seen on a hen. She is a buff bird. I was hoping for some good DF spangles from these two. Feathers.

Would she be the hen you got from Andrew ?
June 2, 200718 yr Author Would she be the hen you got from Andrew ? Yep, she is. All of my quarantine brds have pretty much gone out of breeding condition since I got them, probably because they have been inside, rather than out I hope when they get outside and hear some rain they will get back into condition ASAP. June 2, 200718 yr I find the easyest way to quarantine new budgies is to put them into the breeding cage with the bird that to be there mate, some start breeding ,other may take a little while to start breeding.I have 4 breeding cages in the feed room, for this purpuse.

I am a bit of a perfectionist in all things and every budgie that comes to my place gets wormed, treated with ivermectin and has a 10 day course of coccivet. I prefer not to have them in a breeding cabinet during this time. Here is a picture of my grey hen, who I have today called Buffy. Name suggestions for her DF Spangle mate would be appreciated. I will say at this point I have never watched the Buffy TV show, so names from that mean nothing to me. And a cute picture of Dekota under the nest box door when I checked her nest. Because this nest is up high the easiest way for me to check it is to take a photo and have a look Feathers. Edited June 2, 200718 yr by **KAZ**
