What Are They...

I did a little reading over the post on genetics and colors for beginners here and I think I have a handle on at least one of my budgies. I would be interested in getting more expert opinions though.

The one I think I know, is Willie. I believe she is a Mauve Opaline... (emphasis on believe)

I know Koko is a yellowface... something....

Any help would be appreciated. Also, I believe Koko is a boy based on his cere, but he is also very young, so if you can tell me anything about the cere color in yellow faces - or let me know if Im just wrong and he is a she, that would also be great.

This is a better picture of my lil baby, Koko

Wille I am not sure on the mauve looks more cobalt or violet (hmm) could be my screen but yes opaline

Koko yellowface 1 I think (is the yellow face bleeding into her belly) if so then it would be a yellowface 2 sky blue

Tucker normal green unless he has a dominant pied spot on the back of his head

Skye is a sky blue dominant pied

As for sexing here is a good reference http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...d=14&artlang=en

It is hard to tell when the birds are far aways easier if you have close ups. Lovely flock :fear Welcome to our boards.

Ack yes - I meant violet. I actually got her for my birthday because of the lovely shade of purple my boyfriend thought I would fall in love with. (He was right of course)

Tucker has a bright yellow spot on the back of his head. Im not sure if that is what you mean, but that is why I call him Tucker, for Friar Tuck. I thought it was neat how he had the black stripes on his head except for the big yellow circle on the back of it.

Ill try and get a better picture of Koko, but the yellow in his face stops right at the end of his head. it doesnt bleed down into his belly at all.

Thanks for the info on the others and for the welcome :fear

Here is a close up of Koko

Thanks for the help

Tucker would be a dominant pied then just like Merlin in my siggy. He has a big white spot on his head :).

If it doesn't bleed he would be a Yellowface 1 :D

Your welcome

I agree with Lovely however with Koko he is still young, the bleeding into the chest feathers doesn't happen until the first moult.

I believe Koko to be a type 2 not type 1. As his colour is more greenish than a bright skyblue :P

Koko is definately a more solid aqua then blue, but the color is consistent, not sure if that matters in the grand scheme of things. Koko is a he.. isnt he? The dullness of the pink in his cere makes me wonder if it will still change some.

With Tucker - he has a very dark blue tail feather - it always made me curious if that was a sign that he might be a split blue... (still not sure if Im getting all this gene stuff right)

Kaz I was thinking the same thing but didn't put a definite 1 or 2 because the yellow on his mask is so light so it confused me :P

are there any more pics of Skye from different angle?

From that angle, I would more likely to lean toward continental clearflight pied rather then a dominant pied.

Cheers

isn't that considered one of the varieties of a dominant pied? :P

Here is a different picture, but unfortunately, I dont have one of her back side. I do know she has solid stripes going back there. No white spot. Her body color is not quite solid either. As you can see, she has a couple of white spots on her belly. I thought the spot on the back of the head was a dominant pied trait, but as mentioned before - I am still learning.

Skye hangin' out

She is a Clearflighted Dominant pied sky blue

(Pretty's blue would come out teal when I used the flash).
