Posted April 10, 200718 yr okay, so I'm truely puzzled.. I've seen feathers growing on pigeon's leg/feet... but I noticed today, my creamino hen - YueLiang (meaning Moon), has a feathery feet! I have never in my life come across something so ummm 'funky', but I'm don't know what to think!!! She's acting normal, and nothing seems wrong. Aside the fact that she's molting, and I think these feathers have just started to come in.. Is there anything wrong with her? or is she just 'special'... (Laughing out loud)... Anyway, here are some pics for those trying to understand what I'm talking about!!! (Laughing out loud) Oh please ignore the dirty feet.. she's just been foraging on the ground... The other foot... Any thoughts??? Please please please please tell me, I'm not the only one with a feathery legged budgie!! hehe.. she's the only one that has the feathers too... Edited April 10, 200718 yr by Cheeta
April 10, 200718 yr Wow, thank goodness. For a minute there I thought you meant I wasgrowing on her leg. That would have been a major handicap. Isn't that interesting. I guess it is a bit like women growing mo's and bum fluff on their faces. Misplaced feather shafts? Does it worry her at all? I think she is just special and I just love her name too. Being that I love Singapore/Malaysia and surrounds, I should take advantage of the huge range of beautiful names from the Bahasa Malaysia and Bahasa Indonesia too. Feathers. April 10, 200718 yr Author (Laughing out loud)... well that would be a bit hard for the both of ya!!! eheh Yeah I think she's very special... she's one of my favourite before I noticed those feathers, and now even MORE special!! I had to laugh at your 'bum fluff' comment.. hehe... I hope it is only just misplaced feather shafts... I told my mum about YueLiang, and mum thinks I should breed more like her!!! (Laughing out loud)... I think not.. hehe She seems fine with it all, I dont think it bothers her at all.. I mean I haven't noticed her preening her feet more than usual, so I think it's okay for now?!?! Or at least I hope so anyway... Yeah, I think you should go for more 'exotic' names.. hehe.. so far I have two in chinese names.. I was going to name a few more, but Daniel can't seems to remember them, so I opted not to for now.. hehe
April 10, 200718 yr wow I have never seen that before. Are you going to let her shave? (Laughing out loud) hehehehehehe
April 10, 200718 yr Yeah I bought a male pied this year & then I noticed something on his leg, which I thought at first must be scaly mite, but on closer inspection turned out to be similar feathers to your birds. I think it's pretty rare & shows it wouldn't be hard to select for feathery legged budgies. But I also don't think that would be a good thing, as many birds have been bred with large feathers on their legs & I think it's mostly of great inconvience to them. Best to keep our budgies with feather free legs I think. Edited April 10, 200718 yr by Norm

April 11, 200718 yr Author (Laughing out loud)..... Elly & FGM.. you guys crack me up!! hehe.. shaving her legs... haha Yeah I bought a male pied this year & then I noticed something on his leg, which I thought at first must be scaly mite, but on closer inspection turned out to be similar feathers to your birds. Best to keep our budgies with feather free legs I think. actually that's why I picked her up to start off with, I thought it was scaley on her foot. Her beak is perfectly fine, but I had to make sure the feet was okay too.. that's when I noticed the feathers on her legs!! Poor girl..... I don't think I'll breeding her so I can get 'feathery legged budgies'... but when I have the bigger aviary set up and if she wants to breed, I will let her.. she's one of my best budgies...
April 11, 200718 yr Genetic Mutation in phenotype development DNA perhaps? I think she'll be fine their just feathers. It's not too far from the others feathers anyway though.
