Taking A Budgie Out Of The Cage, Its For Exercise?

Featured Replies

I have been told to take out my budgie out every day for exercise.

I take him out every day.

But he does not exercise.

He just sits on my shulder kissing me...

How can i promote exercise?

Well it's also for playtime and variety. I wouldn't like to be in a small cage (in comparison to open space) 24/7, would you? It's nice for them to get out and play with their flock (in your case that would be you). You could put him on his cage and then sit on the opposite side of the room. If he wants to hang out with you then he'd have to fly. :oliveb:

is he clipped or flighted? You didn't mention :P

Mine mostly like to sit around and Bobby rides around on my shoulder a lot :P Sunny doesn't move much at all but if they want to fly they can and that is important :P

I know what was suggested way back is you put them on your finger and then give a light lift off your fingers to promote them to fly. I would do that with Pretty but once you get that going (Laughing out loud) it does make them more independent because then they realize they can fly around more. Though each individual bird is different that is what happened with mine :P

He is flighted.

He only flys for fun.

Ill keep on taking him out because of the space its just i have been told it was for exersise and i would like him to exersise to keep him nice and stong.

I have put him down on the floor so he will fly to feel taller but he flys on my head and gets upset with me.

:)

you can try what I suggested above another thing is since he loves you very much have you tried to do the stepping game where you promote him to continously step up on your fingers as a ladder for some exercise, does he like to play with toys with you at all?

Try hanging a toy from the ceiling that would entice him to want to fly up to it. When my Scooter was younger, he was out of his cage alot of the time, but didn't fly around all that much. All he had was his playgym outside of his cage. I then bought a spiral rope and hung it on the ceiling. Now whenever he's out, he automatically goes to his rope. He can run all up and down it to play with his bells and he tends to take more flights around the room. I think it's because he's perched up higher. So you could try something similar if he likes to play with toys.

Thats a great idea!

Ill put a swing at the top of the celing!

He wil like that, a good place to perch on.

Also i have been making him fly into the cage him self.
