April 6, 200718 yr Author My budgie has layed one small egg and started to incubate the egg does this mean she won't lay anymore eggs or will all budgies lay more than one egg
April 6, 200718 yr Hi Lankan, from what i understand (and someone please tell me if i'm wrong) ... budgies will lay an egg every other day, there will be mating (maybe more than once?) between egg laying to fertilise the next egg to be laid budgie eggs are only small, about this long ................. and this wide ............ sorry i just can't think of something to compare the egg size to ... i'm sure someone else in here will have a better explanation!
April 6, 200718 yr okay so this is another "please correct me if i'm wrong" answer budgies, especially if its their first clutch, may only lay one or two eggs ... i think average is 4 - 6... they only lay every second day its 18 days approx from incubation until hatching, and the way that budgies lay every other day means a hatching every other day so the chicks have a bit of time to grow stronger before they are fighting another small baby for food if she is sitting on the egg ALL the time (except for very occasional emergences for food and to toilet) then she would be incubating it already, but it is common for them not to start incubating until the second egg is laid - this is all stuff as i understand it, so don't take it as gospel, i just hope i'm learning as much as i think i am!
April 7, 200718 yr anywhere from 1-10,6 ia the average, mine had 6 but only 3 of them hatched and grew up.
April 7, 200718 yr To add if you go to the FAQ there are some great questions there too http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...tion=show&cat=7 AND I believe many people will mark the eggs if you are not afraid to pick them up and mark them with I have seen pencil or a non-toxic marker so you know the order they will hatch.

April 7, 200718 yr Author So Ains you are saying that they will mate before the egg is layed to get fertalizzed so if they don't it won't be, but will they stop mating if you change the location of the cage and also can budgies lay 2 eggs in one day or lay one today and another 3 days after another egg or is it all ways 2 nd day. Thanks for trying Ains
April 7, 200718 yr In answer to your other question about moving the birds, if you move the cage with little disruption and fuss, they should be fine. Its when you move or change their actual nestbox that things can change and egglaying and so on will be disturbed.
