So she layed an egg....

That's the trouble for me-I don't breed but would love to but I would worry about good homes for the babies and probably end up keeping them all,be it budgioes or quails.

I can imagine! It could get very crowded at our place!

That is such a cute little guy...too bad about the father and the others, though. Hopefully the 'little guy' keeps going as well as he is, it would be nice to know his father's legacy lived on. Maybe you should call him 'Junior', to honour his father who died while raising the little birdie.

Great pictures, good lukc with your birds!

Its funny seeing him now and all these pictures in comparison. I'm going to get new pictures soon since he still has grown bigger. I do call him Little Pengy from time to time since that was his father's name.

Hes gotten so tame! He doesn't mind being held, being pet, and he LOVEs to get his head scratched. All just from handling him. I did have to feed him one day because his mother stopped feeding him.

Oh my goodness he is soooo sweet! And him and mum together-gorgeous.

Hello everyone! Sorry I haven't been back in a long long time. I started college recenty and I'm trying to maintain two jobs, so I've been kept on my toes a lot. Anyway, Little Man turns out to be a female. She's still a smal bird, but she lives with the others now. What I'm starting to wonder is why she started to hate me! I played with her everyday and she used to allow me to scratch her head and neck. Sometimes, she'd get so comfortable in the folds of my clothes that she'd tuck in her feet and sleep on her belly. But one day, she started to fear me. Now she doesn't even want me touching her. I guess she realized she's a bird. Probably also has to do witht he fact that she's a docile female.

I'll have more pictures soon.

She's so adorable!!!! I love babies at the stage when they're still little but have feathers!!! :)

Hi all, this is my first post so I am hoping this is the right thread for my questions.

I have 3 birds (6 actually including the babies).

My hen layed 5 eggs, of which 3 hatched, these are now 4 1/2 to 5 weeks old, all are doing well.

I removed the two eggs that didn't hatch about a week ago when I cleaned out their box but I noticed yesterday there is a new egg there and today there is another one :(

As this is my hens first batch I am concerned that laying a second lot so soon maybe a bit much for her.

I did not want to breed anymore for at least 6 months, but as the babies still use the breeding box I don't want to remove it.

Any suggestions?

I think you should remove the egg at least and the box if your babies have got their feathers, which they should have by now.

Thanks Bea, I will take it out and see what happens.

Just a tip. You should have started your question in a new post.

Hope all goes well with your budgies!

Yes, I agree, but welcome anyway, NewBird! To answer your question, your birds will start a new clutch when the babies begin to fledge. It is a normal occurrance.
