A Tale Of Woe

;) yesterday I went into the bird aviary and notice one of my female breeding birds had blood all over her face at first I was thinking she had been attacked but upon further investigation I found her one and only baby had blood all over the back of her head.

I did not take any pictures yesterday as I did not think they were suitable for this web site

but the baby is on the mend more pics later if the baby last over the weekend.

The baby is being feed now by the male of the pair as the female was put in a seperate cage

naughty mom I wonder what gets into the hens when they do that? I am glad the baby is on the mend and will be in my thoughts, I hope it makes it what a little sweetie.

;) yes so do I looks like the baby might be a bright green the mum has never done this before just don't know if I can breed with her again.

yes I can see the green coming in simply gorgeous you must keep us updated .

 Poor little thing, hope the baby makes out okay. You guys know more about these things than I do but maybe breeding is not the mother's thing and she should be retired. :D

awww poor baby... Yeah I hope he makes it out okay too...

I have a sneaking suspicion that a hen plucked baby I once had MAY have been plucked by the mum because it had a bad heart. Perhaps instinct lets them know they won't survive so they need to rid the nest of them?

Please keep in mind this is just a theory I had regarding THAT particular baby budgie. It did lives for a few months, with care, before nature called it back to her.

more pictures soon okay :D

:D what a picture of the little man you are so great with your photos yes more please as he grows :).

Hommer build a small wooden container thats about 2 1/2 inch high like a wooden tray. drill one hole in each of 3 sides 2inch round. turn upside down and place on the floor of the breeding cage. If the chicks are in trouble they will go there. The hens or cocks won't go in, but will feed the chicks from outside.

I have a few of these. I call them my BBBBB. (Brused and battered baby budgie boxes). :D

:D What a great idea! Glad the bub is looking much, much better! :)

^_^ well to say the least I'm confused with your idea's

dad's doing fine and it's a little bit annoying at night as the chick likes to move around and sqauck.

but me being the person I am I just love a battler.

I have about 10 babies at the moment and they are hanging on by a thread.

well I hope I can get by the next six weeks and all will survive.

If you check your petshops, you can purchase a little plastic igloo type thing for only a few measley dollars....designed for hamsters and mice....will do the trick like Daz was saying about a safe house. Cost around $4 :) Good to see the lad getting better :D

okay next time I get any babies being hurt I will try out the boxes thanks for the info and all the best.

WOW what a beautiful chick Hommer :), she is looking good.

It really suprises me how these Budgies can be so violent, suprises me more on how they can do so much damage. It'd take more than one or two pecks to do that sort of damage I believe..

WOW what a beautiful chick Hommer :fear, she is looking good.

thanks yes she is very lucky to be alive maybe in 2 years time she may be okay to breed with. :P

:P I think she is sweet. :greenb:

:P well she's nearly ready to leave the cage she is starting to flap her wings and in a week or so she join all the other babies :D

well all the best and by for now.
