Posted April 4, 200718 yr My dear budgie "Blue" (guess what colour he is!) used to let me and my girlfriend scratch and preen his head feathers once we brought him out of his cage. Recently he hasn't let us do it. I'm not too concerned since he still happily comes out of his cage and loves spending time with us. He even still "courts" my finger and regurgitates seeds for me. There was one time where he had a lot of sore feathers on his head, and we may have hurt them unintentionally. Is there any way we can re-accustom him to having his head preened by us? Any advice or suggestion would be welcome. I miss seeing him fluff up completely and enjoy the head scratches! Andrew
April 4, 200718 yr Maybe if he ever is already puffed up give him a scartch. You need to do it so he will like it to make it a positive experiance and he will forget about the bad memoy. Hope i helped!
April 4, 200718 yr Budgies have their quirks he may be too busy in his mind courting your fingers (I am serious). They go through stages just as we do. Think about it sometimes we don't feel like talking and other times we gab and gab. He probably is going through a stage, he may be getting hormonal or may even be starting a molt. I tend to find that when they are younger they tolerate more touching as they get older they don't let it happen as much. Continue with your routine and you may find he will let you stratch his head once again
