Posted April 3, 200718 yr A few years ago when i was in primary school we had a young budgie called B'fa in my class. He was only a baby and cost my teacher a lot of money. He was never tamed. And did not realy like the noise. And imagine if something happend over night! One day he flew out of the cage and out the window at some ones house. But I was near by the school and I saw another classes budgie still perfectly fit for about 3 years! Hmmm
April 3, 200718 yr When i was in kindergarten both the classes had pet bugdies. Our class had a hen called Sally who was not tame, the other class had one called Eddie who i think only had one wing or something and couldn't fly, he was tame. I loved having a class pet cause i loved animals and didn't have pets of my own. I always volunteered to look after Sally at weekends and over holidays. She never came out of her cage, and ate only seed. Looking back the instability of being a class pet is no life for a budgie. My brother recently told me that he also had a class budgie and one of the boys in his class ripped it's tail out. Sad life for a budgie indeed. I don't think it's a good idea.

April 3, 200718 yr I would think just as a responsible pet owner the teacher would be a responsible pet owner teacher where the cage would have a small lock on it. Those 2 scenes could have been possibly prevented. I remember we had a pet hamster as a class pet and it died of a draft. I personally don't think that is a good place for a budgie unless it is really used to people so if it was a rescue and proven to enjoy the noise and such. I would think all the chattering of the budgie would be distracting to the children though too.

I can clearly remember pulling my grandma's cat's tail when i was like 2 years old. It's a memory cause i was the only witness. I felt terribly guilty about it. :(Laughing out loud):
April 4, 200718 yr We never had a class pet that I can remember However my friends son's school has pet budgies and he is allergic to them and suffers from asthma since he has started school. I don't think it is appropriate for the poor birds to be traumatised by lots of kids and noise just as it is not fair for the poor boy who is now sick. I wonder if the school takes illnesses into consideration when getting a class pet of any kind.

The teacher thought we would be responsible but new as a class we were not ready. It squaked all the time too. She was always distractive. Edited April 4, 200718 yr by Budgie's r cool
