Budgie Shakes/shivers

Hey all.

Just a quickie... Prince ( New bird ) Shakes just like a cold shiver... He is indoor at night and if the weather is fine outdoors during the day....

I think he is scared... When i enter the room i talk or whistle but no matter what he shivers

Keep an eye on him it is probably just the new place he is at, does he stretch too when you come up and see him? Another sign of nervous behavior too.

i agree with elly. it could be prince is nervous and his surroundings are still strange to him.just keep an eye on him.

question you said he is indoor at night do you transfer him from a smaller cage to a bigger cage? Since he is new is he being quarentined from your other birds? This transferring can be making him nervous too.

:D Do take the broccoli out Neat as after it has been in the cage awhile, like all foodstuffs, will start to grow bacteria. It may take a while for your budgies to adjust to eating vegetables but you have to perservere. Good luck to you. :greenb: Since you didn't mention the shakes/shivers I would assume that all has calmed down?

if you go in the food and nutrition area of the site you will find many different ways members have come up to get their birds to eat various foods. That being said you can try and chop up the veggies and add different colors I didn't do that and mine got used to green (Laughing out loud) anyways then sprinkle seed or millet over the veggies. They will have to pick through the veggies to get the seed in time they will start to eat the veggies. I can take up to 6 months so but offer it daily if not offered there is no opportunity to try it out .

It is best to feed the veggies in the AM and then they can be thrown out by afternoon as they will start to get yucky and harbor bacteria as Robin said.

Hiya, initially my birds were not interested in their vegies as I was shoving whole pieces through the cage wires. As soon as I decided to try it all chopped up, or grated carrot etc, they had no problem trying it. Usually if one starts the others will soon follow. Keep at it, as they really do need the extra vitamins and minerals they get out of this type of food.

;) okay I will chop and not shove :) Oppps

:D And then it is easier to discard and there isn't vegetable residue on the cage bars.
