Don't Like Fruit

:) My birds do not seem to be at all interested in fresh fruit or egg & biscuit. I have tried apple (3 varieties!), pear, banana, grapes and plum. Generally it gets either tossed on the floor and pooped on or left altogether - egg & biscuit doesn't even get a sniff.

They do however go completely mad for seed bells, drink fresh water and also are very fond of small young fig tree leaves leaves and seed sprouts.

Does it matter if they have no interest in fruit? :D

Fruit is a whole lot of extra sugar, so its more important that they like vegies. Their tastes will change as time goes on. I do finesliced bokchoy or pak choy for my birds ....with grated carrot and I sprinkle seed over the top. Often they get home made egg food....which also has the bokchoy and grated carrot throught it and some breadcrumbs, and powdered up eggshells as well in it. Mine adore corn on the cob too.

Commercial egg and biscuit often is made from discard sweetish biscuits, and dependiong on brand and type may not be as good for them. Homemade is always best if you have the time to make it up.

The secret with vegies and extras is to persevere, a little every day. It only takes one budgie trying it for them all to have a go. Mine never used to eat carrots and now they all do. You should see their little orange faces after chowing down on the vegie plate. :budgiedance:

:ausb: excellent - I will try them on some vegies right now and forget about the fruit (I can eat plenty of that myself) - the brand of egg & biscuit I tried is Whistler it came in a big bag and at the rate the birds eat it it will last me about 200 years.

I am going down to the shopping centre right now to get them some veggies and worming stuff. :budgiedance:

:ausb: Fantastic - I have given them a little chunk of a fresh corn cob and they love it - first 1 adverturous one tries it and then they all join in - thank you very much - I won't be too bothered about the fruit in future :budgiedance:

mine don't touch fruit they leave the stuff, on the other hand they like green veggies which are generally in strings or are soft like grass, lettuce, cabbage, native leaves etc.
