Posted April 2, 200718 yr Attended a Pet Fair today where there were 100's of booths and I was there as I am involved with one of the Small Creatures Rescue. I visited an Avian Rescue booth were they had about a dozen budgies in a large cage that are awaiting adoption. There was a blue and white female there that looked okay except she had that soft white fuzz under their feathers in long lengths sticking out of her everywhere. I talked to one of the fellows there (he saw my name tag and animal affiliation group), said I had budgies for years and never seen that and asked WHY? He said he didn't know, they had her in quarantine for a very long time, she moulted and groomed herself but the long fuzzy underfeathers just won't go! He is hoping that she gets a boyfriend that will groom her properly. Ever heard of that condition before?
April 2, 200718 yr Some budgies that were plucked by their mothers in the nest grow their feathers in that way as the plucking damaged the feather follicles.
April 2, 200718 yr So does that mean that the poor little thing is doomed to a life looking that way and never getting adopted?
April 2, 200718 yr So does that mean that the poor little thing is doomed to a life looking that way and never getting adopted? I have a couple of adult budgies that were plucked in the nest and the feathers never grow back properly once the follicles have damage
