Posted April 1, 200718 yr With louy i spent time with him every day stroking him in the places he like it. on the neck cheek and under his feathers on the skin of his chest. i then took him out and put him on my shoulder. he enjoyed going out and especially liked going high. now we spend time with each other all the time. he runs towards me and gives me hundreds of kisses. but this took me like a year.... April 1, 200718 yr Well I started breeding last year I try to tame them when they're young usually starting around 4-5 weeks no shoulder stuff just hands fingers not too high. They really catch on talk about amazing. Edited April 1, 200718 yr by Danieru.Toshiro
April 1, 200718 yr that is excellent and this is a great post because it shows that some are not tamed overnight like people expect. It took me 9 months before Pretty started to love me with affection. Merlin right now is going through the process of being 1 bird so though he is not scared of me he tolerates my requests of affection (Laughing out loud) because Pretty was his "boy".
April 4, 200718 yr It's definitely not an overnight process. It takes alot of time, persistance, and patience. I've had Scooter for almost 8 months now and I still consider bonding an ongoing process. He trusts me and knows I'm his human. He loves to talk and sing to me, play with me, and give kisses. But even with all that being accomplished, I still don't think the bonding is over. And now with Bella, I have to start the whole process again. She is already handtamed, which helps, but it will still take quite some time to form that special bond with her.
April 4, 200718 yr Gently cupping your hands around them, so your thumb and forefinger nearly meet and then letting them 'tunnel' from one hand to the other, over and over, can calm them fairly quickly if you need to handle them. This also has the advantage of teaching them that your hands are not such scary things. Having a lot of birds now, I need to be able to handle different birds all the time and obviously they are not all tame, but they all accept this method and are all okay with being handled. I only very occassionally now get a bitchty hen who tries to have a bite. But then, my daughter and I have been accused of being "budgies whisperers" Feathers.
