Breeding Good Marked Spangles:

I’m interested in Spangles & I have bred some with faint marking on their wings, which I like, some are Opalines, but if you want to breed normal type Spangles with nice dark markings on their wings, logic tells me that maybe it’s best to breed them to nice normals. Is this the best way? As I think I have learned that if I breed two spangles together, they will turn out double factors & loose most of their wing markings.

Yep that'a a good thread to read, there are still two thoughts on the good spangle marking some believe two spangles are best (you get some as DF but not all) and some think matched to a normal gives better markings.

I have been breeding spangle to spangle and Jeff Attwood is correct. You can improve the markings. I am just starting this year's breeding season and have Spangle Cock to Normal hen (hen has good marked wings) and I have Spangle to DF Spangle. I'll let you know how they go. :D

It seems to be the general opinion in the show budgie breeding world over here to pair spangle to spangle :D

I think that my spangle has pretty good markings and I believe that one of his parents was a DF spangle and the other a normal. Might be worth a try.

interesting as i have found over here that it is spangle to normal most of the time
