my pair have just hatched six eggs and so far after the sixth egg hatched it died that day and now the others are dying 1 a day and it is the youngest of the ones left that are dying.

they did raise three young in the first clutch.

i am down to 2 left.

what could be happening?

what can i do?

:( I'm no expert, but when I bred budgies before (long time ago) I had one pair that I bred and found that it was one specific colour that kept dying. I had a male green/yellow, and a female green. They mostly produced blue babies, but occasionally I would get one that would come out the same colour as the dad, and these were the ones that kept dying at a young age. It could be something genetic? DAF

Check all the easy stuff first. Are parents feeding the bubs, and if so its it correct consistency of food for the age of the babies....i.e. crop milk for new ones, not seed etc.

Another reason chicks in the nest die off is due to french moult going through your breeding program.

Parents may not be sitting with chicks to keep them warm for many reasons...mice or cockroaches through the nests etc.

Polyoma virus is a reason chicks will die young and in the nest.

Here also can be some reasons.....

WEAK & DEAD NESTLINGS

Disturbance: deaths may occur if the young are neglected by the parents as the result of disturbance, or owing to illness or death of a parent. All result eventually in chilling and starvation of the young.

Dietary deficiencies.

Infectious disease.

Failure to provide the soft food to the parents before the eggs hatch to stimulate the formation of crop milk which the babies need to survive. This is not always necessary but in most cases it can prevent losses.

What are you feeding your parents? I have really started to read up on nutritional disorders and by reading this is a KEY factor to breeding good healthy babies and having less deaths in the egg and nest.

they get a good budgie mix

they get stud mix

they also get broccoli, carrot, corn, peas, zuccini, beans, beetroot, endive
