Posted March 29, 200718 yr After much thought and a bit of research I have decided no to breed my budgies. I swaped my female with another male ( SO they don't breed). I just want them for pleasure not profit. My question now is can I have a small suspened aviary is this enough room for them to fly ???? Do they need to bath? I haven't had this one answered either.

Everyone has a different idea of "small" ...can you advise a size we can think on ? Budgies may not need to bath, they like to however, in fresh clean water. It can be a shallow clean bird bath, or a plateful of wet lettuce leaves, or a misting from a handheld water bottle.

What happens if they eat the lettuce? I was told never to give them lettuce, Avacardo or Chocolate ( Why whould you fed a bird chocolate) Edited March 31, 200718 yr by Nerwen
March 29, 200718 yr Lettuce gives them runny poos but you can give as a treat to bathe in if they like. Avocado and Chocolate are toxic and kill them. Yes what dimensions are you thinking of for your aviary? Keep in mind that budgies like to fly back and forth not up and down so the longer the better rather then tall. Also if you are not going to give them out time of their cage you want to ensure this cage will fullfill their flying needs where they can bounce back and forth. To give you an idea of sizes and cages visit the aviary cage forum where there are pics posts of different member's set ups.
March 29, 200718 yr it os 80cm by 40cm.... 80cm by 40cm ? height and width is which measurement ? and depth ? Budgies need a wider rather than tall cage with perches running front to back so they can fly across the cage ( wider cage ) . A tall cage is one more for a canary or finch. As you havent said which way your measurements run I am still guessing on your cage requirements.

The cage I had was 80cm Tall by 40cm deep and across. I thought it was too small
April 2, 200718 yr you dont have to give them a bath. i spar mine with a water squirter. he dosnt like it. bt prefers it then baths.
April 2, 200718 yr that will give plenty of room to fly around in. try and get some branches going from the front to back it help them to fly rather than walking along the branch. Getting a spray bottle is a good way to bath them, the spray isn't too hard then. Or a hose works as well if soft and turned to the spray. Some like a bath other enjoy a shower more it's different for each bird.
