Posted March 28, 200718 yr Anyone know what Frisky is? I am going to take some more pictures tonight (this was taken before her first moult when she was just a baby!). From my very basic genetics knowledge I think she is: Yellowface type 2 Violet Normal (wings) Note: she has violet cheek patches which would indicate a dark factor.
March 28, 200718 yr She is either a violet or cobalt and yes a Yellowface 2 as I see the bleed into her chest she is super cute.
March 28, 200718 yr with just that shot I would say cobalt. I know violet is hard to get right in pictures, but the cheek patches don't look dark enough and there is now purple hue around the neck or tail.
March 28, 200718 yr my Merlin is a violet if you can see in the siggy the picture is done without a flash he looks like a blue gene coloring but his cheek spots look black instead of blue.
March 28, 200718 yr Hrm. I'll take some more pictures tonight. Can cobalts still have violet cheek patches (not the cheek dots, but above the little dash near their eye)?
March 28, 200718 yr Cobalts will have violet cheek patches. Violets have cheek patches that are darker. One of my hens is a violet, and her cheek patches are so dark as to almost look black sometimes. I used to have a violet male also...here's a picture of them together - you can see how dark the cheek patches are:
March 28, 200718 yr Here are some more recent pictures of Frisky. Ignore the splint - see Your Flock post for that story! From the back (With Andante, a Mauve spangle) Her body colouring you can see quite clearly here. She looks rather aqua but I think that's the effect of the flash showing the type 2 yellow much clearer than you can normally. So, do we think she's a cobalt or violet? Dark factor or not?
March 28, 200718 yr Still no signs of violet showing, I say she is a yellowface type 2 cobalt normal. Cobalts have 1 dark factor gene. And looking at Andante again I think Grey rather than mauve (yes I know I said mauve before)
March 29, 200718 yr Thanks for your input. Yay! I know what Frisky is! However Andante is definitely a mauve. I have seen a grey in the flesh and he definitely has a more bluey tinge which would indicate mauve. The camera doesn't really do him justice unfortunately.
March 29, 200718 yr awe he is balancing so well with his splint bless his little heart I say cobalt too Edited March 29, 200718 yr by Kaz
March 29, 200718 yr However Andante is definitely a mauve. I have seen a grey in the flesh and he definitely has a more bluey tinge which would indicate mauve. The camera doesn't really do him justice unfortunately. He's got silvery cheek patches. Mauves will have the bluey purple ones that most budgies do. I think he's a grey... As for Frisky, i agree with everyone else. yf2 cobalt normal. Gorgeous budgies!
March 29, 200718 yr I agree with Bea and Nerwen I guess posting more picture of him too in the mutations section without flash would be good. Mauve even diluted is not as greyish as he is but I can say he is gorgeous boy.
