Hi i was wanting to know what an egg that is about to hatch looks like

What changes do the eggs go through?

Colour?

Cracked look on the shell?

Is there any change at all?

Please give me a clue

I haven't seen any just about to hatch so not sure of colour, but the make a hole in the shell then circle around making a line and pop the top of it off. There are a few pictures around (most likely in the breeders chat area) showing one hatching.

Often the first egg laid does not hatch... and stays the colour it is when it is laid... sort of opaque ...fertile eggs take on a "greyish" colour and look more solid .... i have no problem telling them apart and remove any unfertile eggs so they do not get broken in the nest and cause ants to come into the box after the breakage

It's always best to remove the unfertile eggs so that the hen has a better chance to cover the clutch.

Infertile eggs yes a a different colour to fertile ones, (as you stated with the opaque look) but to tell out of a group of fertile egg the one that is about to hatch, for me I've not noticed a differance
