Posted March 21, 200718 yr :ausb: Had to take Happy to the vet today (and must adjust most of the bird's ages, she is one year older than in my signature.) Every since a bad moult just over a month ago, she seems to have lost little feathers around both eyes, more so on the left side. The area has never been infected or bright red so I didn't take her in earlier, just waited for the feathers to grow back. They didn't and the area around the eyes look denuded. So I dropped her off today on the way back to work (after rushing home from work in the morning to get a plumber in, :offtopic: but that is another story). Picked her up after work and the vet gave me some cream to put on her left eye once daily. Hopefully the cream will clear up the area but my vet strongly suspects a sarcoma which is possible in budgies. We could bring her in and do a biopsy, (did this route with my Rosey Bourke a couple of months ago) but since as my vet said, she is looking like an "older" budgie, she has had lipomas and other health issues for years, is happy (no pun intended), eating, singing, cuddling with her cage mate Monty and annoying the other birds when she is out of the cage, will leave her be. I never was able to tame her as my spoiled dog was so vigilant at the time, she has always been nasty and a real biter, never the less, have always enjoyed her but will not persue any other avenues at this time, will just make sure she is eating, singing, and annoying everybody. :dbb1:
March 21, 200718 yr :offtopic: that was what I was thinking Nerwen but knowing Robin she will wrestle her to the ground :dbb1:. Glad she is okay other then just getting beauty marks :ausb:.
March 22, 200718 yr Unfortunately sarcoma is a type of cancer. And yes, I had fun chasing her around as she isn't tame and holds the title of nastiest budgie EVER in my life and I got nipped for my efforts. She and Monty are on their out of cage time right now, bugging the other budgies and she is eating and drinking well, like Lovey says, we can only hope it is an age related wrinkle. In addition to her lipomas, she has had health issues all her life, for example, allergies that cause her to go into sneezing fits every couple of days, several times a day. This has been going on for years and mostly occurs in the night. Fortunately all the other birds have become accustomed to this pattern and it doesn't cause night frights.
