Couple Of Questions :-)

Firstly I want to say HI AGAIN!!! haven't been on for a while, been really busy with work and looking after my little friends , oh and the kids hehe :hap:

Anyway I have a couple of questions, firstly why does my indoor budgie Dora feel the need to eat, rip or chew the paper that lines the bottom of her cage even with heaps of food in there??

secondly why does my outdoor boy budgie feel the need to act like a chook hehe he scratches with his feet in the sand on the bottom of there cage and he kicks all his food out of his dish and scratches in it?

lastly I was wondering is it okay to have chooks in a cage with budgies, the reason I ask is, someone I know has a big avary out the back of his property with budgies in it and I have just noticed he has put some chooks in there with them?

Some help or idea's would be very much appreciated

Female budgie rip and shred more then males because it is their nature to do so in the wild. It is not that she is hungry but because it is her instinct to do so. You could give her a paper ball on the side of the cage or hang something up not too big to see if she will shred that more. Also make sure she has preening toys those help alot too. If nothing works she just loves to rip on the bottom of the cage and you will have to accept it (Laughing out loud).

Your second question because he is a budgie :hap: again what they do.

I believe just like quails chickens (chooks) are yes okay to have with budgies but I know someone with an aviary can answer that better for you.

Welcome back

with the chooks question... yes provided that a very good hygene are kept for the chooks (and budgies since chicken hens aren't known for tidiness and non messiness) and a perch for the them to roost at night rather than sleeping on the ground, it is okay to keep them in the aviary, and also I guess anyone would know is that they should be enough space for number of chooks in there without overcrowding them.
