Posted March 14, 200718 yr Hers A question........Can budgies be treated for worms at the beginning or during breeding. And the same question for Antibiotics.
March 14, 200718 yr You must becareful with any medication given to the birds while breeding. The dose is for an average bird in what they drink during the day. Breeding pairs, especially the hen drinks more during breeding and this can lead to overdosing. If there isn't a dose for breeding pairs you can ask a vet or contact the manufacturer. Vetafarm is happy to discuss dosing their products over the phone.

Now what about Sulpher D, some people I have heard them say they use all year round. How would this affect breeding birds.
March 14, 200718 yr I have heard that use of antibiotics and some medications causes temporary infertility for at least a season. If the birds are ill it is better to lose a season than a good bird.
March 14, 200718 yr I was advised recently that it was okay to worm a hen I have breeding right now. She has eggs .....but also she was passing 3 inch tapeworms with her bigger poops. I administered the worming syrup by crop needle. She is fine and looking vigorous again. I guess it depends on the situation and the treatment each time too.

Wow Karen 3 inch worms phew.......so if the poops are long and stringy iy could be worms.
March 14, 200718 yr But Karen you gave her a measured dose by crop needle, not mixing it in water. I think that would be why it was safe to do so.
