What To Do

Hi i have a hen that has laied 3 eggs but they are all in different nest boxes,

Do i transfer them all to 1 box and see what happens?

I have other hens in the avary and they seem to be sitting on the eggs but none of them are in 'season'

(breeding mode)

She seems to be in really good condition with eggs coming every 2 days but am not sure what to do with the eggs in different nests.

This is her first mating i have let her have and she is over 1 year old, i have only been checking her nest boxes once a day at the moment but was planning to check them twice a day if and when the chicks arrived,

could that play a part in her choosing other boxes am i disturbing her?

I have noticed that the colour on her beak has gotten lighter but she is still mating and laying eggs will that make a difference?

Please any advice would be a great help.

Are you sure they are all her eggs, as it seems odd that other hens would "sit" on any eggs other than their own. Other hens would be more likely to remove eggs from a nest they are interested in. If you know who the mate to this hen is, I would remove her and put them both in a breeder cage with nestbox attached to the outside of it, and once she has laid her new egg in the right place, you can transfer her other egg or eggs if you are sure they are all hers.

Checking the nestbox wont be causing the behaviour...either the hen is to immature and scatterbrained or the other hens are driving her away from her chosen nestbox each time and she is finding another. Putting her and him in a breeder cage will solve all your problems :P

if you dont have a breeders cage for her then i would just wait untill she is finished laying and find which box she is sitting in and then transfer her eggs to there, but it sounds like you may have more females breeding than you think.

I'm thinking the same, that its more than 1 hen ;) I know in my aviary, when one wants to lay, they all do!
