April 8, 201015 yr How are your little b#$%&es reacting to Harley? (It is rare we ever get to use that term right so I am trying to here) Birds are great as always. Edited April 8, 201015 yr by Dave_McMinn I edited out the female dog word as I should be more thoughtful and responsible. Forgot I was not an immature boy any more.

Cricket was initially snappy with him especially over rights to food But this morning I found they had slept in the same bed for the night so it all looks fine

July 11, 201014 yr Author Its been raining hard here for at least 5 days and enough to test any aviary for leaks. I am not too happy that the popout end of the aviary lets water in so even though its still raining and Ken has trouble with getting up ladders....he is out there adding clear sheets to the roof of the popout section and also to the end so the rain doesnt come in and make the bird sick. What a good lad he is sometimes PS I didnt make him do it. His choice Edited July 11, 201014 yr by KAZ
July 11, 201014 yr that what i had to do kaz it was to wet and cold and rain came in the flight's Edited July 11, 201014 yr by KAZ
July 11, 201014 yr Author that what i had to do kaz it was to wet and cold and rain came in the flight's Rain getting in is no good, eh Shannon here is the end that needed work came in about a metre in each end of each flight. so ken covered the roof of the popout sections with some clear sheets we had and we will see if more needs sorting out as well There is also a couple of leaks half way down the flights where my white laserlite sheets join the metal sheets, so I will have to wait till they dry out and then use silicone to seal them. Edited July 11, 201014 yr by KAZ

July 29, 201014 yr Author Finally started making the corner cabinets for the birdroom. Motivated highly by the urgency of many birds pairing up in the aviary and wanting to make babies. I have a huge workload on right now ( leadlights ) but have to try and fit some things in between jobs. Stage one of the corner cabinets........... Made a kind of L shaped cabinet but cut across the corner diagonally so it fits a cage front better. Measurement is along longest back section 1m and the other way is around 580mm. Each side where they join the rows of modular cabinets is 450mm depth. Height of whole unit is 1800mm or 6 ft. To the right in these photos you will see holes cut out........that will be the entrances to the nestboxes which will be located on the right. Then all the other vertical units will butt up against this corner cabinet once its finished. Yet to do is the cage fronts, another perch in each cabinet, and adding the modular unit to the right for the nesting boxes. Once I have this corner cabinet finished and the one that goes on the right side of the romom as well, all my cabinets will be complete in the birdroom. Making a total of 40 cabinets. There may be two vertical units ( 8 cages ) in the middle of the room as well. I will decide on that later on. Edited July 29, 201014 yr by KAZ

August 5, 201014 yr Kaz, just read your topic start to finish . ABSOLUTELY AWESOME. We got heaps of great ideas for the new aviary/ bird room. I really love your sliding windows. Solved my problem of cross ventilation. Also love your cages with the glass sliding part at the bottom. I would love to include a pop out part in my aviary also.
August 6, 201014 yr Also love your cages with the glass sliding part at the bottom. I think I must have missed this part. It sounds interesting, though. Short of going back and scrolling through 44 pages of posts, do you know if I should look toward the beginning, middle or end to find it?
August 6, 201014 yr Yes i don't remember seeing it either and I scrolled few but gave up in the end Kaz glass sliding door at the bottom of cage? Edited August 6, 201014 yr by splat
August 6, 201014 yr Author Waiting for some materials to arrive mid next week. Meantime I knocked up another couple of vertical breeding cages. Two units of three verticals......making 6 cages. as the cage fronts didnbt divide equally into the height of the vertical cabinets, I cut some glass for under each cage front.......slide it sideways for cleaning and adding food etc. Cuts down on some of the seed debris coming out the front. Glass sliders
August 7, 201014 yr Good Thinking Kaz. That glass should definetly make some things alot easier. Its mostly because I work with glass and have glass on hand in my workshop that I think of using it Being A LEADLIGHT artist and craftsperson I remember it now! As soon as I saw those pictures, I thought "Oh, and Kaz said she can do that because she works with glass." So I looked back, and I was right! Thanks for finding it for us, Kaz. And did you all know, that there is a little red arrow in the quote tag area, that if you click on it, it takes you right back to where the quote came from? I'm so proud of myself that I figured that out! (Probably common knowledge to all of you. Oh well.)
