November 13, 200915 yr Author Looking great Kaz have to say I my be a bit jealous of your set up just one question have you fix the perch to the curtain hooks they may spin and jam others toes just a thought you done really well pat on the back for you and Ken Yes....I drilled holes underneath the curved bit and put a screw in to hold the dowel Edited November 13, 200915 yr by KAZ
November 14, 200915 yr Author Renee and Tony came over today to help get the aviary finished. Its so close to being done now, its not funny  Tony was good with filling holes between colourbond and concrete pad and was very good on the drill. Renee is a great organiser and Renee and I mostly did the perching. Renee cleaned the wire down with vinegar....smelt like a fish and chip shop in there :fingerscrossed: We all installed the front window. Yet to do..... 1. Clad front of aviary with colourbond, add any trim needed. 2. finish of tightening up and joining some of the wire on the popout section. 3, add a couple more screws here and there 4. I have to finish the window section from birdroom to aviary. 5. Ken has to check doors from birdroom and flights open easily and lock. 6. Wire mesh the front window Then all done. :hap: I put a small flight cage in one of the flights for the youngsters in it to get some fresh air until release. Some photos.... November 14, 200915 yr wow that looks so good well done wow i can not believe how good it looks are you only haveing 24 breeding cages I cant wait till the birds go in. Why do you say about 24 breeding cages ? I run nearly forty mate okay sorry i seen this The back wall will be my main melamine cages...the ones I have made in sets of three with dividers.....two sets along the back wall ( that's 6 wide by 4 high =24 cages ). The cages from the front wall into the centre of the room will be my wire cages in melamine units.....those I made are on wheels so I can move as necessary for different configuration or move to clean. Those units are vertical and three cages high.

That was the old planning stages of the birdroom which is now done..........ages ago....I was only talking about the back wall of cages ( 24 ) PLUS the other cages in the room as well as those. I actually have forty breeding cages.

November 14, 200915 yr Renee is a great organiser and Renee and I mostly did the perching. Renee cleaned the wire down with vinegar....smelt like a fish and chip shop in there Having raised several puppies, the smell of vinegar does NOT remind me of fish and chips...! ... ... WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW My thoughts, exactly!
November 14, 200915 yr Author If the cages of birds I put in there yesterday is anything to go by I think the birds will be happy in there
November 14, 200915 yr Looks great... but will the birds fly into the glass windows??? I'm sure not as you wouldn't have used them if they did...
November 14, 200915 yr Author Looks great... but will the birds fly into the glass windows??? I'm sure not as you wouldn't have used them if they did... As the windows are on the side and they will fly the length of the flight...they shouldnt. Also its why I put the perches in front of each of the smaller windows.....if they are tempted to fly at the windows they will land on a perch instead.
November 14, 200915 yr Many of the breeders in the UK have their internal aviaries built of glass so they have a really good view of their amazing birds. the birds soon get used to the glass and wont fly into it
November 16, 200915 yr Author I have started releasing some youngsters into the first secured area of the two flights so far. I am having to take legring details and photographs as I go to update my records especially as I had a programme crash earlier in the year. Mostly releasing some of Omelettes first clutches for 2009 and then others. So far only one has found the high perches the others are enjoying the perches at the windows and also are perching atop some of the kindie cages in there as well. None hitting the windows, a couple thought they could fly through the corrugated iron sheeting
November 16, 200915 yr    Congratulations!!! Looks like they are going to love their new home
November 16, 200915 yr im so happy for you kaz yeah that grey spangle boy you can send him here if you like
November 16, 200915 yr Author None of them are flying into windows...some are flying into the tin. More of them learning now how to use their wings and some lift and gain enough height for the perches I went to grab a cute pied boy and he took off leaving all his tailfeathers in my hand, so he will have to wait to go out into the flights Edited November 16, 200915 yr by KAZ
November 16, 200915 yr it looks great Kaz. Can you take a picture that shows us the set up from a distance? Think backdoor then one every 4 or so metres as you get closer
