July 28, 200816 yr Author We have been busy. Ken and I, making the melamine cabinets to hold the wire breeding cages. So far have made three out of the six for the back wall. Each unit hold four cages vertically. So there will be 24 cages for the back wall and down the left hand side will be breeder cages too. Have yet to work out quantity and set out for there. I was using a benchsaw for the first time and I found it quite a lot of fun running the timber through it. Ken cannot cut straight lines so I did all the cutting. Will take some photos tomorrow.
July 28, 200816 yr Author Good work! I love power tools so much . I can't wait for the photos. Me too :hap: The melamine units are good as they are on castors and I can move them around to clean or rearrange the room

So you can move things around and you have a new room. Love it!
July 28, 200816 yr Very nice Kaz, good thing someone can cut straight lines here it is I lol...Tim has to do all that stuff but I do like to use the power tools too.
July 28, 200816 yr Great idea, putting the cabinets on castors. I might do that with mine when I repair them. Good work
July 29, 200816 yr Author Some photos of the new units. Have yet to paint the wood at the base where the castors are and maybe the ply at the back too. Some of the units need the melamine strip glued on the front. I knew a long time ago I would be doing it this way so I bought the castors ahead of time when they were real cheap at 25 cents each when a store closed down. I now have to fit some breeding cages in with nestboxes on the front. Redo the perches as the cages came with the wrong types and wrong way round. Currently we are housing the new birds there till they get sorted later today and tomorrow as some will belong to Pie, Libby and Dave. And we havent finished lining the walls in there yet, so its a good thing these units are on castors. More units to make as well. Each unit is 2 metres from floor to top and 650 wide. Each breeder cage is 610 wide by 410 deep and high. I am also going to be putting a sliding glass section across the front lower part of each area holding a breeding cage so that the seed doesnt fly out all over the place and hopefullt it will work and make it easier for cleaning. July 29, 200816 yr Author okay, I am seeing things - I think i need to have my eyes or monitor rested LOLthey are all green ..........  I know i know green for size, one day i will get over the green thing :budgiedance: These ones are YES. These are the ones where I went to get 6 budgies and came home with 46 budgies  So they are mostly grey green series birds...grey green spangles, opalines, normals, cinnamons and cinnamon spangles.  I know what you mean about green as I used to feel the same way myself. Coming from a person ( me ) who used to have all the colours of the rainbow in my pet type birds....its hard to think green. BUT when you get into show birds...its all about getting the size and type right. Colour comes afterwards. Edited July 29, 200816 yr by KAZ
July 29, 200816 yr You want to build me some of those stands for my cages? :budgiedance: Â Love them they are great
July 29, 200816 yr Author You want to build me some of those stands for my cages? Â Love them they are great You had better put a roof rack on the car and head on over ...they are too heavy to post
July 29, 200816 yr Author Yes...for cleaning I can slide the cages forwards or out and clean inside. Easy to wipe down too. Here is the nestboxes fitted with some of the breeding cages with pairs in today. These nestboxes were made by "our" Daz. I have set up 8 breeder cages so far...more to do. Â
July 30, 200816 yr They are just fabulous Kaz, you're doing an excellent job. Bet you can't wait for it to be all finished.
August 2, 200816 yr Author I have slightly modified Daz's nestingboxes. As I work with glass, I am using glass as part of the nestbox door sliders. I have removed the top slider, and replaced it with an inner layer of 3mm glass and then a layer of 3mm masonite. So, in this way I can lift the slider ( masonite ) and look in through the glass without fully opening the whole nestbox door. I also found some long cylindrical glass beads and I am using them for the handles on the sliding door. Here is one example. Before amd after will paint them all white between rounds. That nestbox has a hen in residence glass still down  glass slides up also    We also made some more of the melamine cabinets to hold the cages today, so have six in all that hold 24 breeding cabinets. August 2, 200816 yr they look great  Do you actually have plans for making them or should I see if I can get plans from daz?
August 2, 200816 yr Author they look great Do you actually have plans for making them or should I see if I can get plans from daz? Daz would be the one to see about his nestbox plans. With mine from Daz I just assembled when they got here and I have since modified the sliders for glass
