Back on topic................

Most of the young birds are now in their section of the aviary and learning to find their way around.

Yesterday I did a trade with a glazier I do leadlight repairs for. I did a small leadlight repair for them and traded for a brand new security screen for the front aluminium window of the new flights. I also got trade price so it was way cheaper value-wise than one they would make for the general public. They also meshed it with the steel flymesh stuff. Ken put it in when he got home.

It is a hot day today. In the old aviary all the birds are on the ground. In the new flights only 30% are on the ground. The rest seem happy to stay on their perches.

055-3.jpg

I made some new perches for the birds.

This one is hinged to the hinged perching rack...so when the perching rack goes against the wall for cleaning the little perching rack folds back on it too. The little perching ladder is for any

ground dwellers ( I have ONE :D )

and I just made this one to hang and swing and swivel just before the open end of the aviary.

060-2.jpg

Cost under $30 Size 1.8m tall, perches 30cm wide pushed through.

wine rack perching ( $1-$2 each from st Vinnies or salvos )

Baby budgies soccer balls ( yes they do play with these :D )

You have done a wonderful job with the aviary Kaz. Make sure you sit back and look at where you were 5 years ago and appreciate how far you have really come. Well done.
Psychologically also Dave it makes a huge difference. The feeling you get walking through the birdroom and out into the aviary...the space....not having to duck under stuff....room to catch birds.....room to move around without freaking the birds out ( they just move over if need be )...its all good :D
Very cool Kaz luv the ladders :(
We love our woodworking dont we Splat :( PS Its helped by my drillpress I got back from my Dads house :D

I have those balls for my birds. I attached them to chains and hang them of the bottom of the perching. I also throw them in the baby cages. They are great. Does yours have bells inside Kaz?

I might hang some up too :D Yes they have a bell inside. These balls are tennis ball sized ones. They wrestle with them and tumble over them and fight over possession of the soccer ball. Its fun watching them play :(

Those balls gave me an idea, I might use those plastic golf galls that are similar and use them somhow for foraging... The new perches look great kaz. Well done

I think I have decided to cover in more of the external wall of the birdroom and just use one door to the flights not two. It limits what walls I can use inside the birdroom by having double doors to the flights. The double doors were originally due to the original plans for the flights going the other way. I dont need double doors now. So I will remove that extra door and sheet over that opening.
