So true maesie but in those trees are voracious carnivores that won't think twice about snapping up Kaz's budgies. :D

No sign of any budgies :D

I would have lost about 20 or more we think...I found the young hen of Omelettes in the aviary...the one I thought may have gone. DSCF8722.jpg

14 out of 15 of Omelette's grown babies accounted for so far....and I still have to check the aviary to see if the 15th one is hiding in there still.....I left home this morning in the dark to help out my youngest daughter with some stuff....and now its too hot to chase birds in the aviary....so I will look again when it cools down.

When they grow you dont recognise them as easily. :P

Sorry Kaz that is just horrible and I know from experience they don't come back. Hugs :P

Wow Kaz, your aviary is looking sensational!!! Nice work!!! You must have a nice big property to fit all that on. I noticed you guys have paved the floor and then put sand over that? Yeah? Correct me if I'm wrong. I bet many forum members, including myself, are getting ideas for their own aviaries.

I'm hoping to pick up an aviary soon from my Mum's. My dear old Dad built one many years ago for his budgies. We are hoping to go down to the South East soon, cut it up with the angle grinder, bring it back here to Adelaide and weld it all back together. Given the fact that heat waves seem to be becoming the norm, we will probably make some mods to cater for the excessive heat we get each year. However, until that happens I am busily gathering useful ideas for my aviary. The area where we will be putting the aviary will also be paved.

Look forward to more pics Kaz.

I noticed you guys have paved the floor and then put sand over that? Yeah? Correct me if I'm wrong. We built the aviary on top of existing pavers..that section of yard is paved, then spread sand over the floor inside the aviary.

Last of the old walls of the original aviaries have been removed...hard work as they had been dug into the ground nearly 3 feet.

while the dogs were distracted a bird came fishing in our koi pond...we had to keep scaring it off, but it hung around on the neighbours roof to come fishing again

Ken is now covering the fishpond temporarily.

Anyone who hasnt yet got a safety door .............fit one now !

We lost 1 budgie last month out the door, a favourite and good breeder, that was devastating enough. We're gonna build safety doors this week now that we've shifted the aviaries around to their new spots.

How tall is the aviary you dug 3 feet into the ground? Must be pretty tall if you can afford to have that much height under the soil.

The aviaries were there when we moved to this house. Height around 7 feet I would say.

Here's some photos of Kens birds taken today....
