Have you made Dave build the safety doors yet?? Yeah...they have both coded legrings on and blue split rings. January 15, 200916 yr Author A warmer day today...............those that arent on the perches  are on the ground
January 15, 200916 yr I like admiring other peoples birds... I can't wait till I have that many... of that good a quality...
February 10, 200916 yr Author I finally finished the polystyrene in the ceiling of the new birdroom. It makes a HUGE difference in the temperature in there. Hot day yesterday and not a single bird in the birdroom was feeling the heat. I also found a water filled air cooler thrown out on bulk refuse throwout the other day and put it in the birdroom. It works just great.
March 7, 200916 yr Author It pays to finish a job and not get distracted....... Â We hadnt finished the safety door area and we just came out and found the aviary door ajar and a decent amount of birds missing....maybe 20. Â Â Hot as it is right now Ken and I are about to do the safety door like we should have weeks ago. I have nets nearby in case some of the birds come back at dusk. Being aviary birds and not pet types they will have flown off. We have a lot of predator birds around this area too.........magpies, crows, hawks.

I feel sick in the pit of my stomach. But Omelette and Stud are in the breeding room in holding cages, as is Studs brother and some others. Both Garys white DF spangles are still there...I have lost some youngsters. Until it cools this evening and I catch up all of Omelettes last two batches of babies I wont know exactly what I have lost. Have lost greywings though. We are currently putting up the safety door ( after the budgies have bolted ) Edited March 7, 200916 yr by KAZ

March 7, 200916 yr I am very sorry to hear about your birds escaping Kaz. I hope some come back and you are able to catch them.
March 7, 200916 yr Author We should have known better.... Â it was just one of those jobs that kept going to the bottom of the list. Have so far done the framework and uprights for the door, we are now cutting down an aviary door to fit so its a larger entry for taking things in an out. This safety area also has to be the one that goes into Kens parrot aviary to the right too...will fit his inner door further along. Â Anyone who hasnt yet got a safety door .............fit one now ! March 7, 200916 yr Author Kaz, just read this now, so sorry to read it. Any luck with any returning? I do nto a safety door fitted yet, and I worry all the time. i need to get to mine. What birds are gone?  Some of them its hard to see which are missing but I know I lost my three greywing cocks, I lost a promising cinnamon blue baby hen and others. Tonight I was catching up all of Omelette's chicks out of the aviary to tally them up in case I had lost some...got dark so I havent caught them all yet...maybe one or two of them gone...not sure yet. Caught 9, had 4 in the breeding room flight cage so thats 13...two yet to find in the aviary...saw one at dusk still in the aviary...looking tomorrow for this one....hope she is still there  No birds came back at dusk........lots of bird life in the surrounding trees....couldnt see a budgie though. We have lots of trees around our place...huge 100 ft gum trees everywhere full of birds. I am sure some of them are in those trees. even our hibiscus is fill of birds and nests and babies Edited March 7, 200916 yr by KAZ
