Posted March 10, 200718 yr Hey all sorry I havent posted anything in a while,(been working tons), but i have a quick question. Ive noticed one or two of my birds love to play demolition crew not just destroying their edible toys, I get them these vegan pinatas that are big woven shapes they can shredd and this thin braided (what looks like palm fronds) ribbon that i thread through the bars of thier cage...no with all that these two still knock down or over any feeding cups i put in there or their cuttle bone/millet holders and one even seems to take great joy in flipping any small baths i put out for em....any ideas and more importantly is this normal?
March 10, 200718 yr my budgies are not that crazy is it normal? Probably for your budgies they love to have fun. How big is the cage and do you move the toys around allot? If they like to shred you can also give them non-toxic printed newsletter to have fun with, how are your cup holders held up in your cage? Actually do you have a pics of your set-up?
March 10, 200718 yr Author Well i have 13 of the little guys n girls so they go through the destroyables pretty fast (about 4-5 days even on the big ones!!) so nothings in one spot for too long and about once every 2-3 weeks I change their setup (dont want anyone getting too comfy and havin lil ones yet) Which is a 2 cage setup (stacked) about 4' tall and 4' wide and since their clipped (only about half are fully tame the rest step up and dont bite just arent talkers yet) they have plenty of out time as their cage is open the entire time some ones home...and the extra cups are attached with that lame bent piece of wire...(im getting new ones as we speak...sometimes it takes someone pointing out the obvious for you to stop and just go Duh! i should get better feeding cups (Laughing out loud) thanks!)....so sounds like im on my way to rambling for bout an hr about my budgies and buyin some new cups ill try and get some pictures up soon Thanks again Lovey..
March 10, 200718 yr Coco loves to rearrange/destroy her cage at every opportunity so she has different water and seed dispensers than the rest of the group. Also have to secure her treat cup with a special clip. Think I finally have got non-destructable toys for her. :ygbudgie:
March 11, 200718 yr Baby always took her food dish off and threw it on the floor of her cage so she could forage for the seeds rather than eat them in the cup. Once we created a place for her to forage, she stopped doing it. However, she never dumped her water, so maybe your guys are doing it for a different reason.
March 11, 200718 yr My birds used to do stuff like that when they were juveniles. I think it is normal, and it slowed down after about a year. They still like to yank the food cups off the sides though and the perpetrators are 3 years old now, so some things they may never outgrow!
March 11, 200718 yr I have some hens that constantly knock the food cups of the side of the cage. So I purchased outside bird feeders with roofs and put them on the floor. The roof covers the seed so no poop ends up in the food. They eat on the cage floor. I suppose you could hang them too but I didn't want to block their flight area.
