I have a question.....& please don't laugh.....

 

I am baffled by Trixi's behaviour. As far as I know, she's a girl. But the last 2 days, she's been having a bit of 'fun' with one of the toys in the cage. It's a fairly large toy, with shredded cotton, material & wood pieces in a large-ish ball shape. Very hard to explain! Here's a link to the video....please watch & tell me what you think....

Firstly, she jumps onto the toy...then she attacks it by biting it & rapidly shaking her head...almost like a woodpecker. She continually grips it with her toes, moving constantly, & rubbing her rump area all around. Her tail is moving at almost right angles to her body. If Bobby comes near her, she jumps off to chase him away.

 

I could understand this behaviour if Trixi was a boy....but I'm baffled by why a girl does this??? Is this normal? I feel a bit stupid asking the question.....but can someone help me?

The videos didn't work, i think you need to make your account public (in account options) but from your description it sounds like she's having a bit of fun. I guess both boy and girl birdies like to put on a bit of a show. :(Laughing out loud):

Thanks Bea....I tried to fix my account, but it says that it's already "public"...so who knows. I'll just post the link direct to my account, & you can just find the first 2 videos, & play them from there. I'm not too sure how to post the videos straight to this topic....I'm feeling mighty stupid tonight!!

 

Well....if all she's doing is having a bit of fun, that's great. Maybe I have a transgendered bird!

I have never heard of a girl budgie having 'fun' like this before :(Laughing out loud): She sure is enjoying that toy though isn't she

Beaker 'gets jiggy' with some of her toys too, which is why we first thought she was a boy!
