Do all female budgies lay eggs and at what age would they stop laying?

Thanks :P

females usually don't lay eggs unless giving a nesting box (but some do without a male and nesting box).

How soon they do and when they stop I am unsure and I am sure someone will come in with that answer here soon.

mag , why do you ask this question?

i have a feeling you may have a hen that continually lays eggs , is this so?

robd.

Hi thanks 4 for the reply.

No not laying eggs just thought if budgie was a girl then should she be laying?

Had a good look through the pics and didn't see and pics of the cere that matches.

People have said females bite more (this 1 one does) and doesn't talk (well 2 words I think) but

Has learnt lots of other bird noises, sparrow, murry magpie, and now have a mental blank and can't think of anymore :D many I don't even know what they are!

So my thinking was can't be a girl if there's no eggs..

Females don't usually lay eggs unless giving the right enviroment (some do but it is not common) so if you have a female no you don't have to worry about egg laying. So you can have a girl with no eggs yep :D

A picture of the cere would help there are so many pictures on this forum if you go under the picture section you may find or do a search on ceres I know I have posted Pretty's and Merlin's a number of times.

The rule is female in any variety will be white tan or a crusty dark brown

in males it would be a deep blue BUT if you have a lutino, recessive pied or a dark eyed clear it would stay a pink. Also but not always an indicator on a younger budgie that cere has not changed is if they have white nasal rings indicating a girl and boys have none or if any they are thinner and more tranlucent in coloring.

Budgies are not like Chickens that lay continuously, only when they have the right conditions as lovey as stated (although there are a few that will lay even when alone). If you can get pictures up on here we can help with the gender.

I had a girl, who laid eggs even when alone and on seed diet only. And I think that she finally died because of retained egg. She was only five y.o.

there are expections, Pheobe as a bird like that and she is working with the vet with hormone shots to decrease the egg laying but again uncommon.
