Posted March 10, 200718 yr One of my hens keeps laying infertile eggs. I've candled most and left a few, but all turn out to be infertile. I know that she's been mated by one of the boys, and the've continued throughout the season, but to no effect. I was just wondering, should I keep taking the eggs out of the box? When I do, she just lays more (within a week or so). I don't want her to become exhasted or anything. I there anything I can do to help them along? :ausb:
March 10, 200718 yr If it were me, i'd leave the eggs. She will normally tire of sitting on them and pretty much give up. are you wanting babies? how old are the couple?
March 10, 200718 yr I agree let her get sick of sitting on them and then I would give her a nice long break from your breeding program. Let her replenish her nutrients and minerals her body needs and try again down the road.

I am wanting the babies, I've bred them before and am doing so for a couple of people who have asked for baby budgies. The cock is 3 and the hen is just on 2 and a half, this'd be her first lot of chicks(if she ever gets that far). I'll try and leave the eggs in the box. Last time I tried, they were in there for almost a month before I took them out agian. Let her replenish her nutrients and minerals her body needs and try again down the road. I breed them in an aviary situation with bonded pairs. All the other girls have finnished clutching and now won't try again till spring. The only way I can think to stop her form doing it, is to take her out of the flight compleatly and put her in a cage of her own. But I'm not sure if it's a good idea...
