My Budgie's Beak

Featured Replies

My budgie (named Blue) has developed a thick itchy beak and his blue cere is getting beige at the bottom of the blue. I sprayed him with anti-mite spray (advice from the pet store), and put powered vitamins in his water as well as a drop of cod liver oil. Any suggetions? I adore this budgie, he sings and burbles and is so inquisitive. I have three budgies and I love Blue the best and don't want him to be sick.

I live in Toronto, Canada. I wish I were with you all in Oz.

Anti mite spray from a pet store may only cure him of feather mites. Sounds like he may have scaly face, which requires a spot on of ivermectin (or SCATT )....you need it properly diagnosed and the right vet recommended meds. Pet store products are usually non productive and people who work in pet stores mostly are not trained to give correct advice re ailments. They are there to sell you products and not really to help you. Can you post a picture ?
