Posted March 3, 200718 yr I have noticed a strange problem with jim the ladt few days, he is sleeping strange, he seems to be unable to rotate his head? when he rests he just tilts his head to one side? he is eating and drinking fine, just looks a bit wierd.
March 4, 200718 yr Hmmmm... sounds like something a vet should check out to me. Rabbits can get ear infections that causes them to tilt their head - it kind of affects their balance. There is an issue in snakes that causes a head tilt as well that is neurological in nature. I don't know if birds can be affected by either of these things, or if it would be something treatable or not, so I'd talk to a vet about it. Also, are his poops normal? Is he as active as usual? These are also indicators of a bird's health. Reading over things again, it occured to me that if the problem only shows up when he tries to move his head to the side, perhaps he has an injury or arthritis or has some other sort of neck or muscular issue. March 4, 200718 yr Don't know Welshman, better get that amazing Jimbo of yours checked out, sounds very weird.
March 4, 200718 yr Author checked, poor jim has arthritis!! hes still his normal good self but i do feel sorry for him. my uncle is a budgie breeder for about 30 years and he diagnosed it.
March 4, 200718 yr Jim is so young to have arthritis I would (me personally) question that diagnosis and being a budgie breeder for 30 yrs doesn't give you the degree that an avian vet has (please don't take that wrong being a breeder for years gives you ALLOT of experience). Again Jim being so young I tend to wonder about that.
March 4, 200718 yr Yes, do take Jim in for a second opinion and maybe there is some medication that can make him feel better. Wings and tails crossed here!
March 4, 200718 yr yes, if you take him in, you can probably get some meds to make him feel better. poor little guy!
