Posted February 28, 200718 yr I'm a little concerned with Sylvester's behaviour of late. I'm worried that he might attack the chick. The mom is fiercely guarding the chick in the nest and sqwacking madly every time Sylvester comes near. I was trying to change the box and had the chick in some shavings in a bowl. Sylvester was really aggressive in trying to get at the chick. Should I just put Sylvester back in with the main flock? Will Jewel be okay with the baby on her own. It is 13 days old now. Any ideas appreciated. ************************** Think I overreacted. I think maybe Sylvester is just trying to feed the chick. I watched them for a bit. Baby is coming to the nestbox opening and Sylvester gets really skiddish, but seems he is just trying to feed. I'm not sure why Jewel is so upset. I'll keep any eye on them. February 28, 200718 yr yes around now he should start to feed the baby more. Jewel might be a bit protective of the nest since there is only one chick. or she just might not like her partner in the box with her.
March 1, 200718 yr Author It's funny that she doesn't seem to mind me taking the chick out but is so bothered by Sylvester. I'm hoping that she settles down.
March 1, 200718 yr Sounds like all has settled down, maybe Sylvester just wants to help feed, Comet was the MAJOR food source for my babies, not the mother Star. :ausb:
