Posted February 28, 200718 yr just curious to know a friend has a pair of teils, and a pair of budgies. the budgies have babies i think 4 in the nest. he wants to change cages as the other is difficult to get into. and clean i think youngest chick is about 12 days old is it advisable to change the cage will mum get upset??? will she abandon babies? has anyone had any experience with this at all. of course the new cage has nesting box etc appreciate any sugestions and thoughts..
February 28, 200718 yr I would not make any changes to nesting box or cage while babies are being raised. You do run a very real risk of abandonment of the nest by the parent. If more room is required for fledging babies, I would wait until all babies leave the nest and then you could put babies and parents into the new cage. With regard to the tiels...are they in the same cage ? If so, I would remove the tiels from the cage with parents and babies. Ideally breeding pairs should be alone to raise their families.
