Posted February 19, 200718 yr I just saw and article in the Burks Backyard magazine about an avairy. They had painted this avairy black. And that make you see less of the bars and more of the birds! The man kept finches in his avairy. Iw as wondering if anyone had done this and if it was okay for budgies? would they chew the paint off again? And is there a budgie safe paint? Any ideas?
February 19, 200718 yr Here is some information I found I am not promoting the site just good information http://eartheasy.com/article_birdsafepaints.htm From my research in reading it seems that powder coating your cage is the best from the stand point of being safe but it can be chewed off and the cage can rust which is toxic. Watch out for primers many are more harmful then the paint itself.
February 19, 200718 yr A non toxic paint company ....maybe you can direct an inquiry to them re their paint products. http://www.bioproducts.com.au/About.htm I know what you mean about painting the wire black. One school of thought in an aviary situation would be to use a mini sponge roller ( not heavily loaded with paint ) and paint the outside surface only  I know that my birds in the aviary rarely hang off the wire when they have much more interesting things to perch on. February 19, 200718 yr When you call companies make sure they say for birds just because it is non toxic for babies doesn't mean anything. Fumes from teflon are not toxic to us but to a bird it can kill :hap:. I also found that statement in my adventure for an answer for you.
March 5, 200718 yr I'd go with the powder coating if its a good powder coater a budgie shouldn't be able to chip it . powder coating here is around $25 a meter
