Greygreen?

A lady brought this little guy into work (she had found him) and my boss didn't want him in the aviary - doesn't like spangles ( :( ), So i snaffled him.

Not 100% healthy though, I think he has just recovered from a serious scaley face proble - his beak is very rought on the edges and he is missing quite a few feathers around his eyes/ears. Plus he has an old injury to his wing so doesn't fly the best.

What I want to know though is what colour he is? He has a yellow splotch on the back off his neck, could that mean he is split pied?

He also has a weird black spot? Is that normal for spangles?

Thats the yellow spot on his neck.

So what do you guys think?

Spangle greengreen, like you thought. The black dot is simply a mis marked feather back to the normal rather than the spangle. The yellow mark is just where the spangle lines are thinned to missing.

He could have had a fight to lose the feathers. Are you planning on a vet check or are you still looking for the owners first?

And how could you not like spangles? :(

I just realised, wouldn't his cheek stripes be blue/black if he wasn't pied? They are deffinatley white!

The lady who found him already tried to find the owners (she had him for a few weeks), so no, I plan on keeping him. I am considering a visit to the vet but I am pretty sure he has just had a bad case off scaley face. If he doesn't show some improvement within the next couple of days though - off to the vet. ^^

And how could you not like spangles?

I know... they are my fav. mutation!

Spangles have a mix of white and blue cheek patches. Some have more white others have more blue. I don't see any other signs of pied such as yellow on body, clear patches on wings or clear flight feathers.

I was thinking from the first post that she had just found the bird that day. So does your new little man have a name?

Boogie - cause he is almost the colour of snot.... :( My sister named him.

So a Greygreen Spangle? Thats good, when he is all healthy and purtyful again I plan on breeding him to a Mauve Violet Cinnamon DF Dom Pied.. so Greygreen, Green, Grey and Blue Pied babies! (assuming he is split blue) I can't wait. :)

He's lucky to have found his new home with you :(

Might be worth the trip to the vet for a "going over", since he's obviously been unwell and still doesn't look the best picture of health. For breeding he would want to be in top condition. The thing is, his top beaks looks like it needs a professional trim after the scaly face problem so a check up with an avian vet might be well worthwhile, especially in hopes of breeding. The third eyelid is still partly over his eye, so eyes need a check up too. Things can only get better.

Best of luck with the boy ....Boogie is a great name :)

I would take the advise of everyone and invest in taking him to the vet at least for the health of your birds even if you quarentine to make sure there are no underlying illness'.

I agree how someone can't enjoy the spangle gene is nuts but we are all different. Boogie is a gorgeous boy.

looks like he could do with a beak trim at least but he's feathers should grow in an he should be looking good in no time, good luck with him.

Sco-tie

I just love the name!! So cute  He looks a bit like my Slimey, called slimey coz he was the colour of slime. hmm where we get these names :(
