Big Vinnie

I have been trying to get a size comparison for Big Vinnie. He is a violet normal 8 weeks old and the son of Goliath and Candy, brother to Golly, Liah, Donut, and Beeper.

He is really a very large boy. When he flies in his aviary you hear the beat of his wings. He is "mentor" to three smaller but older young budgies, who, at night perch next to him for body warmth and to be preened by this "gentle giant" . He is such a sweetie ;) He is at least 2 inches longer in tail than my full size show budgies and another inch taller at the head end. All of my adult budgies are only two thirds his size. He is twice the size of all the older fledglings around him.

Here he is on the left of Ariane who is older by 2 months

Here he is again ....the budgie below him is a very large show budgie of 2 yrs old. The three budgies to the left of him are twice his age and half his size

In this photo BIG Vinnie is perched below while his older sister Liah has a word in his ear. To the right is a large show budgie adult.

I am wondering, if he has finished growing, or is there more to come ? At age 8 weeks I am guessing he has some more growing to do. :D

I think he's gorgeous.

what a big boy Karen :hap: and who said violets are slight ;) not this one :D

Why do you think he is so big Karen. It really is astonishing that he is that much bigger than others. What a gorgeous MUTANT. I LOVE him!!!!!!

Oh Karen he is just goregous. Can really see the difference in these photos.I'm glad he is a gentle giant though. It would be scary if he was a grumpy budgie. In the last photo he looks like a sumo wrestler.

I wish he could give some of his size to little JJ who is at the other end of the scale.

He is absolutely beautiful though.

I am not sure. His dad is biggish, but not quite like Vinnie. Goliath ( the Dad ) has always produced normal sized budgies until he was with Candy and she is just a smallish Dominant pied. It must be a gene thing.

Here is a younger photo of Goliath goliath.jpg

I had a budgie just like him. He was a big lutino and was named 'big bird' He ws massive!!! I thought he was a giant too even compared to my other show budgies. Hehehe He is gorgeous and I just love how you call him BIG Vinnie

Oh bubbles he is so cute! looks like a cuddly, stuffed toy budgie!

so the question is Karen... does he have a show ring on?? or was he born before you signed up?

I think he is stunning as well, would he be about the same size as Buddha?

No, he hasnt a show ring on :( but, as a beginner I can show him ring or not for 12 months if I like or if he's okay. I think he s a touch bigger than Buddha.

Buddha sadly died a week or so ago along with 5 other birds when we had a night fright incident ( I believe a cat on the aviary roof  )........I lost 6 birds that slammed into a wall in one corner that night. There were slats off from the lattice on the roof of the avairy in that section. So something was trying to get at them. I am really sad about losing Buddha. I also lost some show birds :)

He is a real stunning bird, and my daughter's absolute favourite. She has had cuddles with BIG Vinnie a couple of times. It's a bit hard to 'sneak' him out of the aviary without being noticed

Feathers.

Aww Karen I'm sorry to hear about that :(

I didn't know you could show a non ringed bird as a starter. Is that for most show clubs or just something that your club has agreed to allow?

Oh I remember you telling me about the night fright and loosing a show budgie but I didn't know you lost Budhaa too :( I am so sorry.

One of the clubs I am a member of allows beginners to show any birds, ringed or not, their own or purchased birds. I could buy a bird at a bird dealers and show him if he was up to scratch. I have been advised to do just that as it would teach me what to look for in a show type bird and how to show and present a bird for show. If the purchased bird gets nowhere in being judged, you upgrade your standard...this is just some advice to help a newbie learn the ropes.

I was extremely distraught over Buddha and the others. Finding 6 birds dead in one corner was a shock and I still haven't got over my Buddha. :(

Oh no!! Not my Buddha!! Nnnnooooooooooo.......... I'll miss that boy... he was such a gorgeous baby!!! :( so sorry you had to go through the lost of six birds at once. :(

On a brighter note.. boy that Vinnie is sure Massive!!! wow...
