How To Get Them Laying

Featured Replies

I have my pastel and grey in a cage together with their nesting box, I know she has laid and raised before, but it has been weeks since she removed the eggs that were in there. Is there something that I am missing? She and her partner do a lot of grooming....a real lot, and he is her partner from before. Should I remove him and introduce a new partner, or will they start soon with the laying and raising process???

Also, if i was to match up my ablino hen with the grey cock, will I get whites with grey markings??

Julie is she in breeding condition? What color is her cere?

It was a dark brown but it has gone back to normal.... I guess I am going to have to wait until she in the mood again.

Yes I think that would be the problem she is not ready which is indicated by her cere. Especially if she is a proven breeder. You don't want to push something on her and have a clutch that fails.

Yes I would remove both of them from the breeding cage and rest them, watch her cere closely and when it is turning brown again (tan not the deep brown) match them up again. This will give you the chance to get her best fertility time for breeding.

Is your grey cock a normal grey? if so you will get normal grey and if he is SF normal blue babies. All the males will be split for Ino.

If he is a greywing grey you will get the same babies (normal grey and normal blue) but all of them will carry the greywing gene. This is recessive so the hen needs to be split for it to get any babies appearing as greywings.

I will have to take a few photos of my birds to find out what they really are.
