Two New Boys For My Girl

Featured Replies

Posted

Hi peoples, Friday I got two very nice Large birds to breed with, this is where I need your help.

I want to put one of these mails with my Albino girl, I am not sure what they are split too.

The breeder was a show breeder however due to her age (86 and not up to date with her record even though she still rings her birds) but doesn't show birds anymore.

But she is still a registered member of a Club.

She feels that both of these males would be suitable with my Albino.

Firstly...is a slate colour... it is actually darker than the picture shows.

Secondly... is a Sky blue.

This is the Girl Girl1.jpg

Also, what would be the result of pairing these two birds.

The female is a Lutino and the boy is an Opaline spangle green split to a Fallow and a light grey yellow face opaline spangle.

Not the best photo Girl2.jpg

Thanks guys

Love your new boys, Paul. I'll leave the genetics to the experts. Your beautiful birds that I bought should be in a large aviary within the next week :budgiedance:

Feathers.

Paul if you are wanting more albinos the only way you would acheive that is to know if either one was split for the albino. With either cock if they are not split you are going to get blues and then any recessive genes that both carry that may come together. Probably NOT the answer you were looking for :budgiedance:.

I am not good with ratios but I can tell you outcomes.

All birds will be green unless they are both split to blue.

To have any fallow babies the female will need to be split

all your females will be opaline and males will all be normal split to opaline

Spangles you will get 50% spangle and 50% normals

Is this another bird you are thinking of to match her with? light grey yellow face opaline spangle (it sounds like you are saying he is split to that but he couldn't be so checking on that so I am not confused)

With greys they can be single or double factors.

SF grey with the hen would produce 50% grey factor and 50% normal. Now if the bird is green it would be a grey green if the bird is blue based (but only if both are split for blue) the bird would be grey.

DF grey you would have 100 Grey factor again with the green/and or blue bird as explained above.

Yellow face is dominant so your babies will most likely be YF.

Again with the opaline the females will be opaline the males split to opaline. Spangle would be 50% spangle and 50% normals.

I hope that is what you were looking for.

With the albino hen.

If he is the slate mutation -- then you could get slate females and males split to slate and -ino. There are many other possibilites based on what other mutations the albino is (or is carrying) and what the male is carrying.

Secondly... is a Sky blue.

Depends on what the albino is -- sky blues and cobalts if she has any dark factors - males split to -ino. And if the male has any splits they may show up.

I did the last 2 pairs I didn't do the first as Hurdy did sorry about that.

A little bit about slate too it is a sex-linked gene on the x chromosome and it is considered a added factor in coloring just like grey and violet. Slate can be present in a green budgie too but it only darkens the green. True slate is visible in a white/blue based budgie. How dark the slate in a budgie is determined by how many dark factors the bird carries.

Here is more information http://www.budgieplace.com/c_slate.html

I find this information important because it is a newer color members can understand how it all works so they can learn to work it out to :budgiedance:

Absolutely beautiful birds!!! But the albino looks male to me.....? :D
