Hi

Not sure if this is the right area for this if not please tell me.

I rang a few vets to get a few quotes to clip 2 wings one on each budgie most were arond the $20- 25 mark and one quoted $50 sorry but to clip 2 wings i think that is a rediclious price

How much do you pay if you have to have it done.

I only want to see it done so i know how to do it and dont bugger the budgies wing

:P Hi Madeline, cannot comment on fees charged in Australia but I can get wings and toes clipped here for about $25/30 per bird. :greenb:

$50 seem a bit much for a clip.

It is normally better to clip both wings, it still makes it so they can't gather hight and speed but doesn't add extra strain to the only clipped wing and unbalance issues.

Maybe only asking for one bird to be done might reduce the cost? then you can see how it is done and do the other. Also if you know if breeders in your area that clip you could ask them for help.

You can also try and ring a few avian shops or those that sell birds and clip them. You could go and see what the clips look like. They may be less expensive. I am here in the US but that doesn't sound pricy for just a clip and yes make sure both sides are clipped it is much safer for your feathered friend.

I would hope that price includes an exam....seems very pricey to me. If you were close I'd do it for you for free. But you deserve a big smiley face by your name for wanting to see how to do it properly so you "don't butcher their wings". I'd ask what type of clip they will do at the vets. A cosmetic clip or a "full" clip I would not recommend. If they will clip a few and test fly, clip a few more and test fly, etc. that would be the way to go. You don't want them to clip 7-10 primaries and say "here you go!" That is too many.

Do you by chance have a friend you trust that would be able to securely hold the bird while you clip?

I meant to say I just reread what I wrote  it DOES sound pricy and Anne is right let's hope it includes an exam. Here to have my dog examed it is only about 33.00 US with nothing else done. :D
