What Would Buttercup And Harry Produce?

Featured Replies

Posted

Harry and buttercup have been paired together for three weeks now and judging by the nestbox activity I should be expecting eggs soon hopefully!!! :(

I was wondering if they do decide to breed what would be possible outcomes??? I'm not sure all I know is ino is sex linked and if buttercup was a boy I could get lutino females. I am unaware of their genetic history apart from the fact that it would likely that buttercup's dad was an ino.

Buttercup(the green mark on her head is from a green coloured iodine perch)

Any ideas???

If your male is NOT split for ino 100& normals and males would be split for INO.

If your male IS split for ino

Males:

50% Ino

50% Normal split to INO

Females:

50% Ino

50% Normal (not split because it is not possible)

If your lutino is split for blue then you will have blue babies but if not all the babies will be green.

Your blue looks like a full body greywing. Which means he is carrying the clearwing and the greywing gene and they are expressed as a full body greywing. So to get any grey, clear, or full bodies the ino needs to have a any one of these genes (or the dilute gene) since the normal gene is dominant to all these mutations. If that makes sense or clear as MUD (Laughing out loud).

Of course you can have surprises of recessive genes if both birds are carrying them such as a recessived pied (example).

Hope that helps.

Thanks Lovey, this definately helps!!
