My Fledged Babies

Featured Replies

Here are just some of my fledged babies in their kindergarten cage. Once they are eating well and flying well, they go into the fledgling aviary. Whilst they are in this cage I can see to their needs, feed them up on all the good foods and makes sure everyone of them is okay.

:) They are very good at naptime, playing with their food and huddling together.

hmmm I wish my kids were like that :), have to crack down Karen you want to have some smart budgies - remember Blinks already rules the budgie world - need some executive budgies to keep him on his toes

Karen they are just beautiful.I wouldn't be able to choose from them if I could.

Yes I have names for most of my 270 Budgies and YES I mostly remember them :D If two look the same I have to think about their names, but mostly I remember them.

:D What a wonderful bunch of pre-schoolers you have in the kindergarten cage! :D

**goes to the store to buy bird carriers...thinks of ways to get to Bubbles house...wonders how many babies will fit in each carrier....**

We had a delightful visit today from Feathers (aka Aly) and her daughter Jacquie and Cheeta and her husband Daniel in the raging heat. They got to cuddle some babies in the kindergarten cage. The birds had airconditioning in the bird room and we sat and watched them. Then the others got hosed down and we got a bit wet too, but it was so hot that getting wet was okay.

what a lovely experience. Cheeta and feathers you are very lucky to live so near. So I heard a few babies were stolen from the aviary :budgiedance:

This makes me want to start breeding my budgies, they are SO cute!! I think I like Vinnie the best but its so hard to choose! Congratulations on your new fledglings.

Oh Vinnie is an absolute stunner, good choice for the best baby. Donut and Golly were taught by Mum, or someone how hard you can bite. It was fantastic.

Karen's aviary is sooo well set up. It got to 41.5 degrees celcius yesterday (106.7 degree Fahrenheit), so puting a cooler in the bird room was such a brilliant idea, the kindergarten kids were loving it. The poor humans in the house got no special attention or air conditioning, just the birds

I get to adopt a beautiful little yellow girl (? - I didn't look) that had a hard start to life and got pecked. Karen suggested "Bonus" as a name, because that's what it is.. a bonus birdie for me, but Jacquie wants to call it "Spesh", cause she is so special.

Anyone who ever gets the chance should visit. Her aviary'(s) are a work in progress and very well thought out, with lots of great ideas I want to steal when I get to build one.

Thanks so much for your time, Karen, especially in that awful heat, which I believe -after our cold windy start - we are going to duplicate this afternoon.

Feathers.

Feathers... the creamino Spesh (or Bonus) is a boy. He's lucky to be going home with you. :)

Lovey, yes I think a few birds did find new home. although I am sure Jacqui has her sight set on little BIG Vinnie! What a HUGE baby!!!

I had a great time. it was stinking hot yesterday... at 11pm lastnight, it was still up around 37C,.. not nice at all. It'll be the same again today... I can feel the heat starting right about now.

YES Spesh is a boy...tiny weenie little thing. I am sure he will thrive at Aly's place. BIG Vinnie is a handful thats for sure....BIG boy !! After Cheeta and Feathers left we discovered our Cavalier Cricket was lost  .....a picket had come loose from the gate and she had wriggled free under the gate and was gone. We searched everywhere for her. Past experiences have shown if she got out she was straight out onto the main road dodging cars. But we searched high and low for her until 1 am in the early hours of the morning and again early today. We rang all the council pounds and rangers, the RSPCA, and vets. I was sure she had been hit by a car and was dead in the bush nearby.

We have just found her at the Balcatta Vets about 40 mins away. Someone found her and handed her into the vets. I am guessing she must have been found on the freeway as it is in the direction of that vets. Ken has gone to collect her. Apparently she is fine. :)

:) OH NO, glad she didn't take her daughter with her and she is okay.

Me too. What a relief. Maggie is bigger than her mother and couldn't fit under the fence :)
