January 23, 200718 yr The only swelling she should have is around her vent area just before laying each egg. Not a pregnant tummy as such, not like people at all really. Is this where her swelling is ?
January 23, 200718 yr My female who is laying at the moment never looks larger or 'pregnant' but when i hold her you can feel the egg inside her - just above the vent, between her legs. thats the only way i can tell for sure, but as soon as you can feel it, it's about to be layed. I check her at least twice a day to make sure she is not egg bound.
January 24, 200718 yr Hi Ram2006, and welcome. Your budgie really shouldn't look any different when breeding, with the exception of a slight swelling around the vent roughly 12-24 hours before she lays the egg. The area may look bruised, but this is normal, it is not actually a bruise. If your budgie looks "pregnant" there could be something else going on. What environment is she in (cage, aviary, breeding cage, free-range budgie )? Have you been trying to breed her? What is her activity level? Does she act normal or has there been a change in her behavior?
