Posted January 22, 200718 yr Hi, ive had Snowy for 4 months now and im getting a little concerned about her beak. There is cuttle fish in her cage and i purchased a mineral block from the pet store. She doesnt go near either one of them. Can you tell me if there is anything i can do to make sure that her beak isnt too long. People have told me that if it gets too long she will not be able to eat her food. Also i have noticed she sits on her perch, bends her head and rubs her face on the perch.
January 22, 200718 yr Hi Bek, are you concerned about the length of her beak or are you just worried about what other people are telling you? As for rubbing her face on her perch, all my budgies do that every now and then... they get itchy too, especially if they are going through a moult.
January 22, 200718 yr Hi, thank you for replying, i am concerned as im not too sure how long or short the beak should be
January 22, 200718 yr I am not sure if you have any natural branches but my use those to rub their beaks vs cuttlebone. In fact I haven't seen either of mine touch there is ages. Here is a picture of Pretty, normal beak. One of Merlin
January 22, 200718 yr Could you post a picture Bek so we can see what the problem might be if there is one. The cuttlefish or mineral block isnt just for maintaining the length of a budgies beak, so it isnt going to grow excessively if your budgie hasnt been seen using either. I have never had to trim or have trimmed a normal budgies beak. It's normal to worry about your budgies. Some people's comments can make us more unsure than we were before their comments. But if you can post a photo we can help you some more Cheers Karen Edited January 22, 200718 yr by Bubbles
January 22, 200718 yr There beaks are the same as Snowys so maybe im being a bit to overprotective (if thats the right word), thank you for replying and adding those pictures, they are really nice birds. when i get home from work i will take some pictures of her beak and post them Edited January 22, 200718 yr by bek
