Posted January 22, 200718 yr I was conferring with a top show breeder who feeds some natural leaves and branches from the Australian bush to his budgies. I saw the budgies eating these branches of leaves and seemed to like it very much. This breeder says these natural things are good for them and a natural medicine also. His birds are disease free. He tells me the tree branches are peppermint tree. The peppermint tree, a favorite food of the western ring tail possum and many birds. The peppermint tree is recognisable by its soft pendulous foliage, clusters of tiny white flowers and the peppermint-like smell of its leaves when they are crushed. So, I got some peppermint tree branches and leaves today for my budgies and they went absolutely nuts over it. It was like catnip to a cat, peppermint tree to a budgie !! They are still out there going mad eating up all the lovely soft leaves. All the birds got some. Edited January 21, 200817 yr by KAZ
January 22, 200718 yr I am going to try some from my peppermint bush out the front. Great if they love it because it grows really fast and we are always trimming it. Edited January 22, 200718 yr by feathers

January 22, 200718 yr I don't have a Peppermint tree, maybe I can plant one for the future. My canary has eaten nearly an entire leaf from my mum's ginger plant - much to my fathers annoyance!

We were trying to work out male or female first. But today it has turned definitely in the direction of a female so that is a lovely name and YES thankyou I will use that name Here she is today...
January 23, 200718 yr Aaawwww she's gorgeous!!! Just a thing about taking branches off the side of the road... make sure it's off a road that aren't busy most the time... as the exhaust sometimes will 'stick' to the leaves...
