Posted January 21, 200718 yr Hello Everyone! It's been a while since I have been here I have been on holidays. I hope everyone had a great cristmas and new year! I just have a few questions re parents feeding babies. Blossom and Bart currently have 4 babies, the oldest was born on 31/12/06 so that would him/her 22 days the other 3 were born every other day after that therefore the youngest is around 16 days. The birds are in their own cage and they have a diet of seed, water, paswell budgie breeding food and veges (sprouts) 3 times a week and a calicum and iodine perch. Lately I have noticed that they don't seem to be feed the babies as often, is this normal? How often shold be fed at this age? Blossom has also started to beg for food from Bart by making a high pitched squeaking noise, what does this mean? Last night I heard all my budgies going beserk! When I went out to see what was wrong I found a feral cat trying to attack another cage of budgies I scared it off. This morning blossom and bart seem to be very flighty and have taken their time to feed the babies, is this okay? Also Blossom's cere is starting to change back to a light blue/white, does this affect her parenting? If anyone has any ideas I would be really greatful Thanks Anna
January 21, 200718 yr I didn't take note of WHEN by babies were feed, i check there crops to see if they were full and weighted them once each day to be sure they put on weight. But as the bubs grow older they can hold more food in the crops and so need less feeds. As to the noise to be feed, that is normal. You will also here this noise from the bubs at the nest box hole and once out of it for food as well. If the cere is changing it means her fertility is lowered and it best to stop her at this clutch. It shouldn't change her behavior to the kids.
